June 2013 trial date set for U.S. Government versus Apple eBooks collusion case

Reuters reports that the U.S. Government versus Apple eBooks collusion trial is set for June 3, 2013. The U.S. Government’s lawsuit is also against publishers Macmillan and Penguin Group, but not against the other three publishers  (HarperCollins Publishers, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette Book Group) involved in the case. These publishers have already agreed to separately settle with the government. The lawsuit claims that Apple conspired with publishers to raise eBook prices, but Apple and these publishers deny this, instead saying that they have increased demand for eBooks and eBook readers.
