MyFitnessPal updated w/ HealthKit support for tracking calories, weight, & workouts

MyFitnessPal, an app focused on helping you track your diet habits and caloric intake, has released a new version today with support for HealthKit and Apple’s new Health app on iOS 8. The new version allows users to interface three types of data with Apple’s Health app and other HealthKit-enabled apps: meal summaries, weight syncing, and workout data from exercises. Specifically, MyFitnessPal can share meal data you add to the app with other HealthKit apps while weight and workout data can be shared back and forth with other apps.

The app adds to a small list of approved HealthKit apps on the App Store after Apple removed HealthKit-enabled apps on iOS 8 launch day due to a last minute big with the feature forcing developers to submit updated versions of their apps without HealthKit support in order to be available again.

Earlier this week, Apple released iOS 8.0.1 with a number of bug fixes including the return of HealthKit support, but the update was quickly pulled after users reported it disabling cellular service and Touch ID functionality on iPhone 6 and iPhone Plus devices. Last night iOS 8.0.2 was distributed with a fix for the previous issues again re-enabling HealthKit.

iPhone users with iOS 8 looking to put Apple’s new Health app and HealthKit to use can try out MyFitnessPal for free on the App Store, and 9to5Mac will continue to share HealthKit apps as they become available.

This looks interesting. It will be interesting to see what the individual apple developer can come up with.

Approved all the settings, MyFitnessPal data not syncing…

Why is everything so complicated with Apple recently. So much for: It just works!

  3. data not syncing with health app

  4. Update: I guess it takes lot of time to update. After an hour, the weight got updated. So maybe, slow sync issue from myfitness pal side ??

It will update automatically once you add something to the app. I added a meal and it updated right away! Works smooth :) Now, Nike has to step it up with their apps to track activity.

    • Please see my coments below. All correct permissions granted yet the App is not correctly updating. I looked on the Apple help forums and there are others having the same issue.

It’s not universal as my wife’s Health app is working perfectly well.

does apple health pull old data from myfitnesspal?

  7. davisonp67 - 10 years ago

Currently I am experiencing issue where Health will not save settings allowing MyFitnessPal to write data to dashboard. Health app also not allowing Me section in setting to open.

Health app crashes/freezes when trying to manually update data.

Health app now updating correctly – but surely without the ability to input targets the pretty graphs are fairly useless. Health needs to allow me to set a goal for each metric so I can judge my average in context.

    • This issue has actually not resolved. Health App came to life yesterday afternoon and synced with MyFitnessPal and also allowed manual data point entry.

However today the dashboard is showing as empty and I cannot input any data manually.

Also trying to open the ‘Me’ section in Health Data causes the app to stop responding.

Help! If I record my status in myfitnesspal, the health app will record two same status in each option(such as calories). Actually it’s not accurate. Does anyone have the same problem?

      • tedliu2014 - 10 years ago

More clearly. First, my records in the past days cannot sync to health automatically, I should only tap my records and press “correct” mark on the top of the right. Second(and then), after I recorded into HealthKit like this way, the health app will record two or more same status in each option(such as calories). Plus, If I record my status of another day in health app, some of my previous/next day’s record will disappear. Actually it’s not accurate. Does anyone have the same problem? Hope fix it.

    Sync Fixed (sort of)
not fun, but if you go back into each day on MFP and click on a food item, then accept (check mark upper right). continue for each item they are all showing up now.
about 5 min per week depending on the quantity of entries.
