Chinese site cnBeta has posted convincing-looking Outlook screenshots of what it says is part of Office for Mac 16, suggesting that Mac users can expect a long overdue update to Microsoft’s productivity suite before too long …
The screenshots depict a flat user-interface very much in keeping with Yosemite’s look & feel, and cnBeta says that the software also offers support for Retina screens and offers integration with Notification Center. Additionally, it’s likely that Microsoft will take the opportunity to bring the functionality more in line with the Windows version.
Unsurprisingly, cloud features are also reportedly being beefed-up. Microsoft yesterday started offering unlimited cloud storage to Office 365 subscribers at no extra cost.
Office for Mac was last updated four years ago. Only Outlook is shown in the posted screenshots (calendar shown below), so it’s difficult to judge how far along in development the new version may be, but earlier rumors had suggested that Microsoft might launch a new version before the year is out.

Wow, looks like they spent a week or two tweaking Office 2011. I hope this is a fake… doesn’t look like anything has really changed.
It looks almost identical to Office 2013 for Windows.
it also looks almost identical to Office 2011 for Mac. The icons are different. Thats about it.
yeah, if you compare directly to outlook 2011 for Mac (which I have open now) it looks like they just changed the icons and moved the top icon row.. seriously.. first though in my mind was this was a photoshop job..

To be honest Outlook is the least exciting part – I’d like to see what Word, Excel and PowerPoint given that in Office 2011 they still Carbon where as I’m hoping in Office 16 that they’ve ridded their applications of Carbon and cleaned things up. Honestly, I’d sooner have zero new features in favour of making Office 16 Cocoa native and feature parity with the Windows version when it comes to the most requested features.
That’s the same link as the one in the opening of the piece, Kawaii. But yep, feature parity with Windows would be my top priority too.
Of course it has changed. New restrictions, new limitations, and new expenses for the customer. That’s the Microsoft Way.
If Microsoft does anything like the did with the Office 2013, I will NOT be jumping on that train. What I mean is that Office 2010 is MUCH better than Office 2013 on Windows and also Office 2011 on a Mac runs much better than ANY version of Office I have EVER used, period.

Just payed the subscription for Office 365 to download the new Outlook for Mac, only to find out it is the same Outlook from 2011 with different colors…. no change in functionality at all, it even has the same bugs… no full screen view….
very disappointed. its not worth it AT ALL.
Ummmm, there’s nothing about that user interface that looks anything like Yosemite.
Current Office 2011 meets all my needs apart from Outlook. If only I could choose how far back to sync, or not sync at all and work ‘online’ all the time, life would be grand
I really HOPE it supports .pst files instead of these LAME Database files.. that always cause corruption. I’d also like to see, “RECALL MESSAGE!”
I am surprised that anyone would want to use Microsoft products. If work did not make me use it I would never use it.
