CES 2015: Olloclip debuts 2X telephoto lens + CPL for iPhone 6/6 Plus, Seek shows 3X zoom thermal camera

Having released an updated iPhone 6/6 Plus version of its popular 4-in-1 Lens late last year, Olloclip arrived at the 2015 CES with two important new items to show: a new iPhone 6/6 Plus version of its previously excellent Telephoto and Circular Polarizing Lens for iPhone 5/5s, and completely redesigned versions of its lens accessory-compatible cases for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Separately, Seek Thermal – maker of the $200 Seek Thermal Camera reviewed on 9to5Mac last month – has just shown a second version of the temperature-sensitive camera that’s set to be released in the next few months. Currently unpriced but planned to sell for a small premium over the original model, the Seek Thermal Camera with Zoom will be capable of zooming in up to three times by using a twisting front lens. More details and photos follow…

Olloclip’s Telephoto + Circular Polarizing Lens for iPhone 6/6 Plus features the same two key components as its iPhone 5/5s predecessor: a 2X telephoto adapter on one size, and a large circular polarizing filter on the other. The latter component enables the iPhone to shoot photos of items through glass and water, enhance the intensity of skies, and do other cool tricks involving reflection enhancement or minimization. It will have the same $100 price tag as before, but will have the front- and rear-camera compatible housing of the 4-in-1 Lens for iPhone 6/6 Plus.

The company also showed a prototype of its new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus lens-compatible case, radically and wonderfully redesigned from the original version. Carrying a $35 price tag, it will come in black or white with gray accents, and be made from hard plastic with rubber molding – a far more device-friendly solution than the prior hard flip case Olloclip sold for the iPhone 5/5s. It will be released in Spring.

Updated January 20, 2014: After showing the Seek Thermal Camera with Zoom at CES, Seek announced that the name will be Seek XR, with a $299 asking price. Seek XR uses a twisting mechanism to adjust the zoom between 1X and 3X. Seek says that it will enable both distance and macro imaging using the integrated thermal sensors, which will otherwise remain the same from the version we reviewed last year.
