Google Play Music for iOS updated w/ Material Design, first ever iPad version

Google this afternoon has begun rolling out a major update to the Play Music app on iOS. The update packs a handful of new features and enhancements, including a totally refreshed Material Design interface, and for the first time, an iPad optimized interface, as well.

Google touts that this update offers new album and artist description pages with a new, cleaner design as well as a more immersive Now Playing experience with album artwork taking up the entire display. Perhaps most notably, there is also now an iPad-specifc design for Play Music on iOS. The iPad interface is overall relatively similar to the iPhone design, but with larger and more immersive images.

Finally, Google says that the update contains a variety of improvements to streaming and automatic caching to make playback more reliable. The full change-log from Google is below:

We’ve heard you all loud and clear, and now Google Play Music has an official iPad app!

Both the iPhone and iPad apps also have new Material Design UI:

  • Beautiful new artist and album pages with descriptions
  • Immersive Now Playing experience
  • Small visual improvements throughout

Finally, we’ve made a lot of improvements to streaming and automatic caching to make music playback faster and more reliable.

      Here’s a few:
      • Material design sucks
      • Google should keep their design on Android
      • Apple’s design is better, I don’t want this Material Design crap
      • I will never ever use Google products! They steal your data!
      • Google “do no evil” my ass

      Am I missing something?

I like the app…. choices are always better, but I still don’t get why the circles for people’s faces are better than what works in a grid…. still, now I have no reason to use iTunes match anymore.
