Facebook Messenger launches on Apple Watch, gains iPad multitasking & Spotlight support

Facebook today issued a notable update to its Facebook Messenger iOS app today, bringing three major iOS 9 and watchOS 2 enhancements. Most importantly, today’s update includes the native Apple Watch application introduced at Apple’s September 9th event. The app has support for viewing and responding to conversations as well as sending stickers. Specific to the iPad, Facebook Messenger’s interface is now dynamic so it can support split-screen apps in the updated multitasking view. Across all iOS 9 devices, Facebook will now show conversations and contacts in the Proactive Spotlight screens.

Can’t believe it still doesn’t support quick reply from the notifications. How hard is that to implement? Skype already has it.

    • What? I’ve been using its quick reply for almost two weeks now!

I think Dillon means on the Watch.

Uhhh.. There is quick reply for the iPhone app as I’ve been using it since it was updated on September 28. And there is quick reply for the watch app too when you get notifications.

No, you cannot pull down on a Facebook Messenger notification and type your reply in the notification banner. You have to enter the app to be able to type a reply.

So…does everyone understand NOW why Facebook had to tear the Messenger app out of the monolithic Facebook app?

I wonder if the 1-star “I hate Messenger, put it back into the Facebook app, I don’t to [purposeful sic] apps” reviews will stop.

one of the features of the amazon fire phone, or maybe its just the amazon app store??? is you don’t need a separate Facebook messenger app!

    • Matthew Fox - 8 years ago

we , the owners of the amazon fire phone , have our own facebook messenger app as well. so we can have it both ways. we can use the facebook app for messenger or we can use messenger.

other then that, the amazon fire phone isnt a very popular phone heh
