You can buy the Apple TV from today in Apple Stores, Best Buy, MacMall & other retailers

Apple has confirmed our report that the Apple TV is available in its retail stores from this morning, with Best Buy, MacMall and Target also having limited stock available for pickup starting today.

Apple has sent an email to some customers promoting the 4th-generation Apple TV as ‘the future of television,’ highlighting apps, Siri remote and the new user interface. Apple’s email contains links to both the online store and retail store-finder.

If you’re planning to pick one up, you’ll need to choose between the two models available …

Apple offers a choice of a 32GB model at $149 or a 64GB one for $199, with the 32GB model likely to be adequate for most. While the App Store has not yet officially launched, developers using pre-release models have been able to search for apps.

Eddy Cue said yesterday that Apple TV had graduated from a hobby, confusingly saying that the company had sold over 20M of the earlier models, in contrast to the 25M number given by Tim Cook during the recent earnings call.

If you’ve already decided to buy one, you may want to check out our roundup of the best accessories for the device over at 9to5Toys. If you’re still undecided, a review roundup and hands-on video may help – though one common complaint in reviews is already being addressed by Apple.

I pre-ordered mine through Best Buy earlier this week and just recieved an email last night saying that my order has been canceled! Now the website says “Coming Soon”??? What gives??

Just got off the phone with a customer representative. Turns out that Best Buy decided to take pre-orders for more Apple TVs than they could dish out. Then instead of delaying the order, they decided to just cancel some people’s (mine being one). Unfortunately, I used gift cards for my purchase an threw them away after I received my confirmation email. I now have to wait 10-15 days for the cards to be mailed to me… This is complete Bulls**t in my mind! I will NOT be purchasing it through Best Buy again. Add another reason to why Amazon will drive them into bankruptcy!

I ordered the 32 gigger and the Nimbus controller early this morning when the Apple Store indicated both will be available for pickup today.

I received the “Available for Pick-up” notice st 9:35 am.

I preordered mine through apple on Monday and it won’t ship until next week. But Best Buy has it for sale today? Thats not right

    • bhayes444 - 8 years ago

Same here. I contemplated canceling it earlier this week and going to a store, but thought they wouldn’t have a lot of stock. They have enough, but I can’t cancel my order. Stinks I have to wait until next week instead of going the 15 minutes to the Apple Store to pick it up. Oh well…

“Over 20 million” is not “in contrast” to “25 million”, it’s just a confusing and/or outdated way of saying 25 million.

Pre-Ordered through Best Buy on the 28th and was just notified today that it is on backorder. :(

I pre-ordered mine from Best Buy and chose in-store pickup. At the time it said it would be available for pickup on 11/4. After seeing these posts about the orders being cancelled I checked the status of mine and it says it’s available for pickup today! Though I haven’t gotten the e-mail notifying me it’s ready.

Does it still see your iTunes library over Home Sharing as before..? It’s not clear in any of the blurb.,.. oh, and if it does, can Siri search through it?

I can get her to open up Computers I can’t get her to open a show through it though. I may be wording things different than what would work.

  9. Ben, I got an Apple TV today due to this article. Because I saw this post, I called my local Best Buy and they had just gotten the new Apple TV in stock despite it showing as unavailable on BestBuy.com. Both models display as “Coming Soon” with no order or in-store pick-up options. If anyone else sees this comment, I recommend giving your store a call and/or making a visit. I called ahead, but even the employee in the store that I spoke with was surprised. Here’s hoping you can get lucky like me if you have been waiting on this new model for as long as I have. And fyi, Best Buy will price-match Apple so you can save $.99 + tax. Thanks again Ben!

I placed an order on monday through Apple. I went to Best Buy today and bought one, came home called Apple and cancelled. They said it was in the shipping phase so I will still get it. They already emailed me a return label. I have already set mine up and played crossy road. I love it.

I received mine today and the lovely remote is DOA… Now I have to wait for them to send a new one…. What a wonderful “Apple” experience

I was on Best Buy’s website early in the day yesterday and it said coming soon. Checked it again later on in the day and it showed that they were available. So I picked up mine up last night. I had a gift card for them so I wind up buying the 64 GB one. The setup is very easy. It can be configured through your iPhone.

I am not interested in an app to watch movies if I still have to fork over money to a cable system for access; I.e., HBO, SHOWTIME, etc. I want to cut the cord entirely. When real internet streaming is available, I’ll consider it.
