If you ask me, Apple’s current color palette for the iPhone lineup is starting to look a bit dated. If it doesn’t introduce anything new in terms of colors with the next-generation iPhone 7 this fall, the device will have pretty much the same color options since the iPhone 5s (rose gold aside), and it wont have much to get excited about aesthetically for current iPhone users. And the fact that the iPhone 7 is said to retain the same metal design as the previous generation doesn’t help things…
Perhaps Apple determined after its iPhone 5c experiment that a broader range of colors outside the boring black/gray/gold palette isn’t what iPhone users want?
But what about an update even on the current colors. Apple has a lot of inspiration to draw on with the Apple Watch lineup, which unlike the rest of Apple’s product lineup, has as a much wider range of color options outside of the boring iPhone colors. A space-jet-black anyone? And with the iPod line all but dead, Apple has quite a muted color palette for its products going forward if it doesn’t inject some new life into the iPhone’s look. I personally liked a lot of the iPhone 5c models, but I never had a chance to own one as I prefer to stick with the more capable flagship models.
But the latest rumors say the next iPhone will largely retain most of the previous generation device save for a slightly thinner iPhone 6-like body, flush camera, stereo speakers, and thinner Lightning port (and possibly some redesigned antenna lines?). So it sounds like Apple isn’t going to change much in terms of the materials used on the device, which might not bode well for my hopes of new color options. There was one rumor a while back, however, that it was considering a new casing material and water and dustproof design, but that report conflicts with the more recent and more reliable reports mentioned above.

What I would like the most would be a darker space grey phone. I understand why they replaced the previous “Slate” color with the current “Space Grey” with the paint chipping away and everything, but the current shade is a tad too light for my taste.
The current Space Grey iPods, for example, have a way nicer, darker shade, in my opinion. Even the new iPads are a bit darker than the current iPhone line.
More “colourful” options like the ones in the image header could be nice too, but I’m not the biggest fan of coloured metal finishes. These hues tend to look better on plastic devices, like the old 5C.

How about offering a black bezel with silver metal just like the iPhone 4? I’d be happy with the colors of the parts as they are if I could just have the only non-ugly metal with the only non-ugly glass. As it stands I deal with the space gray back so I can have a proper black bezel, but I don’t love it.
The new SE’s “Space Gray” is much lighter than the current 6/6S Space Gray making the phone look silver rather than gray. The SE is by far the best looking iPhone to date… From the pill shaped flash, black glass bars on the back, black antenna lines only on the sides of the phone instead of gray plastic all over the back like the 6.
People will complain about too many SKU so no, plus I think the current lineup is a sweet spot color-wise. But for God’s sake fix the space “grey”.
I think they should keep their colors, but definitely add onto them. I think a Turquoise color would be amazing, but then something red or purple would be nice too. But I would love to see a turquoise phone and iPad, possibly even MacBook
It really bothers me how 9to5Mac editors insist in not understanding Apple’s patterns. iPhone X release: new design, slightly improved specs, no new colors. iPhone Xs release: same design, immensely improved specs, *one* new color. It’s been this way since forever (save for the 4s, which did not include a new color). Apple is NOT going to launch a new color with the iPhone 7 – they *just* introduced rose gold 7 months ago. Please calm your next-iPhone demands down.
It looks likes they are going to break with the pattern with the supposed ‘iPhone7’. Reports indicate it will have practically the same design as the iPhone 6. They might even drop the naming pattern. They are not bound to following patterns.
Colors are cool, and while I am really enjoy the way a naked iPhone feels in my hand, most people put cases on them so the outward color is almost irrelevant.

Does anyone know what happened to AnoStyle? The company which was infamous for anodising iPhones to multiple colors? I think they went out of busines and their website is dead. Their Twitter feed has been a death valley as well… Weird because no sign of going out of business..

to be honest there are bigger and more advanced things that apple could deal with and focus on rather then making this the main talking point.. ‘oh we would like to introduce a new colour ‘ – its just a distraction from adding a new feature and the media will eat it up just like the long wait on getting a white iPhone.. it doesn’t change how we use the phone at all
most people slap a cover on their iPhone swell and then even so the silver and gold for example are barely different from a distance to the naked eye..

Drop the old, easily damaged Aluminum in favor of tougher composites and build the cases so they protect the screen so we’re not forced to buy cases.

I’m happy with the current color selection – they’re classy, understated, and have set trends in the tech industry. The more SKUs there are, the more constrained inventory will be at the warehouse and your local Apple Store.
4 colors is fine with me, and the current selection has something for everyone.
Regardless of the back color, the case usually hides it anyway. What I’d really like to see them do is make the front the same color as the back and I don’t care if it is aluminum or plastic under the glass. I got the silver because I wanted it to match my MacBook Pro and my iMac but it is white on the front and once I put my case on it, the silver completely goes away. What’s the point? If that’s going to be the norm, I’m going to buy only Space Grey from now on so I don’t have to look at the white front. I didn’t want white, I wanted silver. I’m sure the folks that got gold backs would love a gold front and the same for those who got rose gold.
