Snapchat update adds animated stickers with GIFs from GIPHY, new Stories and Discover tabs coming soon

Snapchat is launching a new library of animated stickers to place onto snaps, in partnership with GIPHY. To see all the animated stickers, open the Sticker Picker and tap into the search field. Then select the GIPHY header, or type something into the search field if you are looking to find something specific. The feature is rolling out, so it might not show up for you just yet.

As ever, you can combine stickers with other effects and place more than one anywhere in the photo. Press and hold on a sticker, then drag it to the trash, to remove it.

Now, when you are searching for stickers, you’ll be able to access the ‘endless’ library of GIFs from GIPHY and unique animated stickers made by Snapchat team.

How to add animated stickers in Snapchat

  • Take a snap.
  • Press the Stickers button in the toolbar, it kinda looks like a folded over piece of paper.
  • Search for a snap or pick one from the GIPHY collection to see all the animated GIFs in one place.
  • Tap to add it. Drag to rearrange.

Animated stickers and GIFs also work with video snaps.

You can drag out a sticker and then press and hold to pin it on to something in the video. The sticker will then track the object around the screen: moving, rotating and enlarging to stay attached the object. This is great if you want to place a sticker over someone’s face as they move around in the frame, for instance.

Aside from the animated sticker fun, Snapchat is also launching new tabs in the Friends and Discover screens for better organisation. These tabs will allow users to quickly filter between friends with Stories, group chats and Discover subscriptions.

These changes should help adoption of the new Snapchat redesign, which some have complained is confusing. The new tabs should help separate out items for easier discovery and browsing, especially in the river of Discover content.

Look for animated GIFs in Snapchat from today, with the new tab features rolling out soon. Get Snapchat from the App Store for free.
