Sleek and slim: Signature Series Acrylic Signs for iOS devices [Review]

As interactive signs and kiosks become more popular in retail and corporate environments, the search for the perfect secure stand seems to be never-ending. The design should be sleek yet quite – there’s no reason to distract from the device itself. It should be flexible, allowing for quick viewing angle adjustments. And most importantly, it should be extremely secure so no one goes running off with the device. 9to5Mac took a first-hand look at newPCgadgets’ Arcylic Sign display.

Design

The design is definitely sleek and premium. From afar, the acrylic resembles glass, adding to the overall higher-end feel to the accessory. One downside is that the four screws that hold in the iPad are front-facing, rather than hidden in the back.

There is a wide opening above the device’s audio port, allowing for an auxiliary cord to fit right in. The sleep/wake button can be pressed through a very small opening (the included screwdriver fits perfectly so you’ll definitely want to keep that around). At the bottom, there is just enough room for the lightning plug.

At the base, there are two screw holes for mounting to a table or other flat location. Once installed, the device can swivel around 360°.

Installation

For the level of security it touts, the installation is quite simple. Place in the iPad, lay over your choice of cover (one covers the home button and the other does not), tighten the four screws around the device then the two on the base. The lightning cord fits snug into the base and stays quite hidden. It’s a little difficult, but you can plug the lightning cord in and out even after you’ve installed the cover.

Swivel and swing

If you’ve mounted the base to a table, you can swivel the device 360° around. Yet, you cannot adjust the angle – it remains perpendicular to the ground no matter what. For some situations, this may be a killer. newPCgadgets is marketing the device as a “sign” or “display”, rather than a kiosk stand, so it makes sense why they didn’t add the ability to tilt.

Conclusion

The Signature Series Acrylic Signs are sleek and secure, no doubt about it. Boasting easy installation, a high-end design, and easy access to buttons and ports, they get the seal of approval here. Check them out on the newPCgadgets website.
