Apple will stream its October 16 event, featuring new iPads and Macs

Apple has confirmed on its website that the October event will be streamed. The URL is ‘apple.com/live’, so it seems that Apple is using the same video/blog platform that it first used for the iPhone 6/Apple Watch event in September. As the event progressed, Apple added tweets, product information and photos to the timeline below the main video.

Let’s hope the stream doesn’t also experience the same issues as the September event this time around, which made the event unwatchable for many people.

In terms of expectations for the event, reports indicate that Apple will announce new iPads, including a new thinner iPad Air including Touch ID and, perhaps, a less reflective display for better use outdoors. It is unclear if the iPad mini will receive similar updates.

On the Mac side, Apple will unveil Retina iMacs alongside Yosemite. It is also possible for the Mac mini and MacBook’s to get refreshed, although the rumor mill has been silent on these fronts. Similarly, ‘it’s been way too long’ since the iPod line was updated — there is some speculation that a new iPod touch is in the works (with the larger 4.7 inch display of the iPhone 6) but again there have been no rumors or leaks about such a device.

9to5Mac will have full coverage of the event on October 16. The media event kicks off at 10 AM PDT.

I just hope that this time it will be glitch and double soundtrack free

  2. Really hope they sort out the streaming issues this time. It was painful trying to watch the September event, listening to Tim Cook talking about amazing video quality on the iPhone when the video stream of the event was so poor.

Well, let’s see if Apple was just snake bit in September . . . .

    (1) Screw up that was the Apple iPhone announcement streaming event

    (2) Apple store opening 3 hours late on the first day to pre-order

    (3) The misjudging which iPhone size to focus production on

    (4) The fiasco that was iOS 8.0.1

Or, if Steve will continue his circular rotations in his grave. I’m rooting for you, Cupertino – please don’t shoot yourself in the foot again!

“Way too long” could just be sarcastic self mocking because they just had a Keynote recently.

iPad Air 2 with Touch ID (maybe other things)
    Retina iMac
    Yosemite launch

All sure things. What I’m really curious about is ‘it’s been way too long’. It might not be such a big deal, but it could also be something big.

    – Mac Mini: complete redesign (a la Mac Pro), make it much smaller, or keep the size and make it much stronger. Who knows. To be honest, having entered the Apple world with a 15″ rMBP (in february) and now the iPhone 6, I would like to also have a separate “desktop” OS X device. Instead of plugging in my rMBP to my external monitor.
    – MacBook Air: as far as I know the Air hasn’t been redesigned since 4 years ago. They were pretty proud of the Air 4 years ago, and it’s still a great design. What if they are previewing the Air (like the Mac Pro and Apple Watch)? If it’s an amazing redesign that’s just as impressive as the Air 4 years ago, a preview might not be so unrealistic.
    – Cinema display?
    – Apple TV?
    – iPod?

    Pretty excited tbh.

It’s been way too long since the last iPod announcement. But I doubt it, there’s no reason to focus on those single purpose devices anymore. They already do what they’re supposed to do.

MacBook Air + iPad Air = iPad Pro

I’d be willing to bet this stream is much better. Forget the fact that a far smaller audience is likely to tune in to this one, Apple has an awful lot to make up for after the last botched stream.

That rumor we heard about the 12″ iPad running both iOS and OS X got me thinking…if it were like this…it might be very interesting…..

    1. Includes a keyboard/trackpad Dock for the desk…When docked, OS X appears, and is operated no differently than any other Mac.

    2. When undocked, only iOS appears, and its an iPad.

    3. The device would use iCloud (obviously) but would also utilize a “Local iCloud” type feature, that keeps iCloud Drive in sync without having to send up and pull down the same files….a shared file system of sorts, would allow you to access the same document on both OS without having to redownload or double store it.

I don’t know If I personally would have need for such a device. The problem would clearly be the requirement of a desk dock to use OS X….but I don’t see a way to effectively have a SmartCover/keyboard/trackpad…the Surface product is a gimmick…and I don’t want to touch Mac OS X…i do that enough with VNC apps from iPad and it sucks.

Would certainly be an interesting reply to what Microsoft is doing with their Surface system.

Not something that I would need / use – but it’s a developing market.

    • So glad to see you came around on this. I guess it’s official now.

Oh, 1+2 sound really tempting! But I doubt they would go that far. At least not that time around. But fingers crossed and… we’ll see. :)

” It is also possible for the Mac mini and MacBook’s to get refreshed, ”
It looks like you (and most young people) missed that lesson in school… MacBook = singular, MacBooks = plural My advice; just never press the ‘ key, you’ll be right more often than not.

time to touch up on my Mandarin

  12. Oh yes! Can’t wait for another stream from Apple. Last one was sooo successful.

I hope the new person in charge of streaming does a better job than the former emplyee in charge of last September’s event.

Everyone is complaining about the stream… does it really matters? That much? And after all, guys, I am sure that more than 100m were watching the event live. There’s 99% probability on that something will crash, eventually. Soooo, keep it calm and enjoy the event and everything around! :)

How about a simple Kensington lock (slot) in the next Mac Mini update? Too aesthetically unpleasing?

  16. Komrad - 9 years ago

I’m in the market for a Mac Mini, but I’m going to wait until after this event to see if they are getting refreshed.
Not that I’m going to buy the new Mini, I’m just going to enjoy the ensuing price cuts on the current model. :)
