Staples turns on Apple Pay support at its retail stores ahead of Black Friday

Staples shared in an announcement today that it is now accepting Apple Pay transactions at its “over 1,200 stores” in the United States for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users. Apple Pay, of course, will also be available for iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s users starting next year when paired with the upcoming Apple Watch. Apple included Staples in its list of retail partners when announcing its secure mobile payment service, although Apple noted that support would be “coming later this year” from the retailer as it was available in time for last month’s launch.

Staples has, however, supported Apple Pay for online purchases through its iPhone app allowing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users to make purchases with the Touch ID fingerprint reader without having to enter credit card information specific to Staples.

The retailer, which sells various office supply items including electronics like the iPhone, iPad, and Beats products. Earlier this week, 9to5Toys shared a preview of upcoming deals for the holidays from Staples. For anyone in the market for a wearable fitness device, Staples will offer $25 Prepaid Visa cards with wearable device purchases including Jawbone, which supports Apple’s Health app on iOS 8, and Fitbit (which Apple recently stopped selling online).

Apple Pay is generally accepted at most retailers with NFC-compatible checkout terminals, although a number of retailers including Best Buy and CVS with such terminals do not accept Apple Pay currently due to involvement with CurrentC, although that could eventually change.

Don’t know who i should contact, but, I tried using Pay at staples yesterday and they needed the last 4 digits of the “card number” but they were never displayed on my phone, so i ended up having to use the card instead. Not mad about it at all, but just wondering what could have caused the hiccup.

    • Happened to me to, I work at a Staples that supported Apple Pay for about 2 weeks now and i never had a problem until yesterday and my coworker needed the last 4 numbers. It was very strange especially since it said my cad was declined on my phone.
