Kamcord mobile game recording SDK raises $15m Series B led by GungHo, now in 400+ games

We’ve been keeping an eye on Kamcord as the platform for in-app gameplay recording and sharing grows, and today the company is announcing another round of funding, new milestone stats, and upcoming features for both developers and users.

Perhaps most notable of all the announcements today is the fact GungHo Online Entertainment is leading a $15 million Series B. Not only is that yet another major game publisher onboard with Kamcord, it also means gamers can expect some of GungHo’s popular titles to soon implement game recording.

GungHo publishes the incredibly popular Puzzle and Dragons title but also participating in the round are other gaming heavyweights like Tencent and Wargaming as well as TransLink Capital, M&Y Growth Partners, Merus Capital, XG Ventures, Garry Tan, Aaron Iba, Harj Taggar, Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian, Dror Shimshowitz, and Mark Williamson.

“Part of GungHo Online Entertainment’s success derives from building a vibrant player community,” said Jun Iwasaki, CEO of GungHo Online Entertainment America. “By partnering with Kamcord, we’re expanding our community as we know community-created gameplay videos are an indispensable form of information, entertainment, and community engagement.”

With the investment, Kamcord says it will be “aggressively growing its team in the United States and Asia.”

Since last time we checked in, Kamcord is still at 1.3 million montly unique content creators (which is slightly higher than competitive platform Twitch). The company is also now in over 400 games with around 25 million videos shared through the platform. Kamcord’s Eric Edelman told me the company has experienced significant growth among users since launching on Android in September. “The number of devices Kamcord reaches each day has increased by more than 20x since our Series A,” Edelman said.

With help from iOS devs bringing Kamcord support to Android titles, the company says the Android SDK now reaches as many devices as on iOS.

As for new features arriving soon, Edelman told me the next feature the Kamcord community iOS app will introduce is chat.

Earlier this year, Kamcord was the first gameplay recording platform to introduce support for Apple’s new Metal graphics technology.
