Kickstarter iOS app updated w/ new design and iPad support

Almost a year after shipping its iPhone app, Kickstarter has released version 2.0 which includes full iPad support for the crowdfunding service’s app as well as a new design using a card interface for projects. As with the iPhone version, Kickstarter says its iPad app helps users find new projects to back and keep up with updates on projects you follow, now only bigger with the tablet…

Project creators can use the new iPad app to post updates on projects, keep up with the latest funding progress, and interact with backers.

In addition to launching its first iPad app, the folks behind the crowdfunding service shared a detailed blog post in the style of an interview with Kickstarter for iPad’s iOS engineer and product designer to describe the process behind bringing Kickstarter to the tablet. The two walk through the process of beginning to create the iPad version and point out the iPad’s benefit of being a great video playing device as why the app needed to exist.

After we launched the iPhone app, it just made sense to have an iPad app too. Zack, back in the day, worked on something that was internally known as “Lean Back,” and became publicly known as video mode, which is what should have been on an iPad. No one wants to do an intensive video discovery on their desktop computer.

The full post is an interesting read if you’re curious about iOS development, especially between both iPhone and iPad. Kickstarter 2.0 for iPhone and iPad is available for free on the App Store.
