Apple adding 9 new 3D Flyover locations to Maps

Apple today added nine new cities to its Flyover feature offering high resolution 3D imagery of select locations in its Maps app.

The full list of new locations rolling out is below:

Baton Rouge, LA
Boise, ID
Edinburgh, Scotland
Cáceres, Spain
Guadalajara, Mexico
Ponce, Puerto Rico
Venice, Italy
Linz, Austria
Rennes, France

The new additions follow Apple’s latest update last month that added another 11 cities from locations around the world.

As always, Apple has a full list of supported locations for iOS features including Flyover on its website.

  1. As of now flyovers are not visible for any of the cities listed above….

on the Apple website (https://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#maps-flyover) *Flyover* is an individual category & *3D Buildings Navigation* is another separate category. There are more cities in the “Flyover” list than there are in “3D Buildings Navigation” category. Flyover seems to be showing for ALL cities, but not 3D Building Navigation.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding and this has already been made clear, but flyover is just the photo-realistic satellite-esque 3D mapping while “3D buildings navigation” is the building silhouettes in the vector maps used during navigation.

Really? They added Guadalajara before Mexico City? I hope they add it soon now that they seem to have noticed Mexico exists too.

Guadalajara doesn’t seem to work on my iPhone 6, it’s not even in 3D. Does it work for you?

  5. Apple has made a mistake with Flyovers in Denmark. According to the website, there is Flyover available in Odense and Copenhagen, when in fact it’s Aarhus and Copenhagen.

Here in Australia, at least, they want to forget about fly overs and get the ground but somewhere near right. Anywhere near.

  7. Can’t see any of those in 3D, either.

Yeah, I checked today and the cities listed haven’t “hit” me yet.

The list at their website it still inaccurate, even after I have given them feedback on it. For one, Rotterdam in The Netherlands is still omitted from their list of Flyover Tours, as well as Flyover (which are two different things).

Still, great to see them expanding on their efforts.

Great that no one here is pointing out that Apple should add public transport to their Maps app. It can really get annoying after reading that request so many times.
