Apple seeds Safari 7.1.5 and 6.2.5 betas to developers for Mavericks and Mountain Lion

Apple today has released a pair of Safari betas for earlier version of OS X. Safari 7.1.5 beta for OS X Mavericks and version 6.2.5 beta for OS X Mountain Lion are both available on the Mac Developer Center for registered developers. Safari 8.0.5, which includes the same upgrades as the Mavericks and Mountain Lion versions, is not available as a separate download, but it comes as part of the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 developer and public betas. Here are the focus areas for these Safari betas:

  • General website compatibility
  • Extension compatibility
  • Debugging using Web Inspector
  • Typing in the Smart Search Field while using multiple displays
  • Viewing videos on sites such as Netflix and YouTube
  • Address and Password AutoFill
  • Adding a new Google account to Internet Accounts by logging in to a Google
    website
  • Customizing the toolbar using the “Customize Toolbar” sheet
  • Navigating and clicking Favorites and Top Sites using VoiceOver
  • Selecting “Show in Collections” while editing bookmarks
  • Navigating and clicking in web pages using VoiceOver
  • Ruby text selection
  • Web pages that display dashed or dotted borders
  • RTL web pages that contain media controls
  • Web pages that use -webkit-filter
  • Web pages with vertical text that use -webkit-text-underline-position:
    underline
  • • Web pages that have animated GIFs and use -webkit-transform • Web videos that use WebVTT with non-ASCII subtitles
  • • Web pages that use list-style-type: hebrew
  • • Using VoiceOver on web pages that contain MathML 
  • These features are only available in Safari 8.0.5:
    • Syncing browsing history between devices using iCloud
    • Using “Add Image to Photos” context menu item on an image 

Earlier this week, Apple released public bug fix releases for Safari across the three most recent Mac operating systems.

    I still have an issue with Safari getting stuck using the “swipe-back” gesture. The animation then gets stuck until the app is restarted. But it’ll do it again the next time I try to go back until I restart the machine. Sporadic, but I’ve had this since Mavericks was released on multiple machines and complained ever since. It’s never been fixed 😑

      I did have the same issue with OS X Mavericks. It disappaered for me with the first Public Beta of 10.10.

      I had this, too. I disabled every Safari extension except AdBlock. This fixed it.

    I really hope they fix the viewing of videos on youtube. Always when I start a playlist the first video runs without a problem but when the second video should start it always get stucked.
