You now have to wait almost a month to get a Gold (or fast) MacBook

While it was a case of ‘you snooze, you lose’ for the Apple Watch, almost all models selling out shortly after online sales opened, there’s better news if you’re in the market for the new 12-inch MacBook. At the time of writing, the standard model ships in just 1-3 days in either silver or space gray.

Opt for the gold model, however, and the shipping estimate jumps straight to a month. And it appears Apple isn’t expecting many buyers to care about the relatively weedy performance: the faster 1.3GHz processor model appears to be build-to-order only. Check the button for that and the site displays a message saying “this customized Mac takes a bit longer to build” and shipping slips to 3-4 weeks for even the silver model …

Launched at any other time, the new MacBook might be getting more attention, but on the day when all eyes are on the watch, Apple’s sleekest ever MacBook doesn’t seem to be seeing much love. Even Apple’s homepage relegates it to a small box at the bottom.

It’s 4-6 weeks on every model here in the UK, and all Apple stores are saying they have no idea when they will have the MacBook in stores for display purposes and certainly didn’t have any in store to buy! Really disappointing if you ask me!

Incredibly disappointing. Very poor experience and very un-like Apple. Launch day is essentially useless if I’m waiting a month. No it won’t prompt be to buy something else, but I know Apple could manage their supply chain much better. I can’t help but wonder what happened?

I ordered the gold online immediately and am supposed to receive the Fedex on Thursday.
