Belkin’s WeMo app adds IFTTT & support for more bulbs including Cree

Belkin today updated its WeMo app — the companion software to the company’s platform for controlling connected lighting products, appliances, and more — to offer support for IFTTT and additional light bulbs.

If This Then That (IFTTT), a service that lets users automate tasks from a long list of other mobile apps and web services, is now supported through the WeMo app update: “Create your own IFTTT recipes for OSRAM LIGHTIFY and WeMo LED bulbs. Use texts, tweets, even touchdowns to turn lights on or off.”

As for new bulbs, Belkin is announcing a new partnership with Cree to bring WeMo compatibility to the Connected Cree LED Bulb:

The Connected Cree LED Bulb will connect to the WeMo ecosystem through the WeMo Link, a ZigBee®-to-Wi-Fi® bridge, and will be controllable from anywhere using a smart device and the WeMo app. Through the app, the Connected Cree LED Bulb will also work with other WeMo products, including the WeMo Light Switch, WeMo Insight Switch, WeMo Maker, WeMo Smart LED bulbs, and NetCam HD+.  Integrating fully with the WeMo ecosystem will allow Cree customers to easily create a fully integrated smart home customized to their needs and schedule. For example, the NetCam HD+ can act as a motion sensor to automatically turn on the bulbs as soon as motion is triggered by opening the door or just walking into the room.

In addition, the WeMo app is now supporting color and temperature control for the OSRAM LIGHTIFY LED bulbs (Flex RGBW, Gardenspot Mini RGB, Tunable White 60). WeMo app support for the Cree bulbs, however, won’t arrive until this summer.

Belkin says the update also brings speed and reliability improvements and a new “Community” feature to “see how others are using WeMo to make their lives a little better” directly from within the app.

You can grab the updated WeMo app, version 1.12, on the App Store, and check out the Connected Cree bulbs and OSRAM LIGHTIFY LED bulbs.

Wemo is late to the Watch party, and unfortunately still reluctant to support HomeKit. With HomeKit and Siri support, Wemo would be a pretty great little suite of products.

How about that Homekit support we were promised in January that would be ‘Coming Soon’.
