Unboxing photos of my new iPhone 6s 128GB in Space Gray

I know better than to try to compete with my colleague Dom Esposito when it comes to videos, but here in the meantime are some photos of my shiny new iPhone 6s 128GB in Space Gray emerging into the outside world for the first time …

There are, of course, no surprises. Aside from the prettier external box, the rest is the same as last year.

I opted to follow Jeremy’s recommendation to do an encrypted backup of my old iPhone 6 and then restore to the new one. Oddly, this didn’t work perfectly, failing to install some apps, so I had to download those again. But it was certainly a far quicker experience than restoring from iCloud.

The tiny difference in dimensions between the 6 and 6s is virtually undetectable, and made no difference to my Mujjo wallet case.

All the photos in the gallery are clickable to view full size. I’ll post some first impressions later – though I shan’t be conducting any drop tests of my own …

All good to go! I’ll be testing out the new camera this evening. Do add links to your own photos in the comments.

  1. no rose gold, no fun… jk
i wish developers would add more functionality to 3D touch than shortcuts on homescreen tbh

I was hoping we’d get the apple watch style folding charger in the UK from now on… First impressions of 3D touch?

Congrats, Ben! I am looking froward to your in-depth review later this week. Actually, I guess we all are waiting for first impressions on the 3D touch. And maybe real-life camera experience, too. I hope I’ll join the legion somewhere in December! :)

I keep forgetting you are in Europe – but an reminded by the size of your wall charging brick! :)

My 6s Plus is on the UPS Truck for delivery today (at the office) and I have my MacBook Air with the backup of my 6 Plus on it, just waiting to be restored to the new 6s Plus.

Did your “Contacts” icon transfer over to your 6s? It seems like some people still have the “Contacts” icon on the screen while others lost that icon – and now contacts is only a tab under the “Phone” icon.

Contacts is still there, though I keep it hidden in an Unused Apps folder as I always access via the Phone app

When will Apple ditch the sim card trey? I really can’t wait. Sim card trey, jack port, home button all should die. |’DIEDEEEEEEE

Still looks so light in colour. No chance then I guess of matching my Space Grey aluminum watch.

Any issue with restoring a save from a backup? I did it and all my apps are greyed out, not downloading…

A bit underwhelming in that its a slightly fatter i6. The little [S] on the back is cute though..

Both my wide and myself will be upgrading from our 6 to a 6s plus for this “minor” upgrade. When will people realize the best way to upgrade is when the phone you currently have is just a year old and worth more money for trade or sale?

    • AeronPeryton - 8 years ago

I just upgraded from the 5S I got on contract exactly two years ago. au in Japan gave me about $300 for it towards the cost of my 6S. I had the top of the line 5S for two years and got an almost 50% refund for it, I consider that money well spent.

*fistbumps Ben* Exact same phone I just got, excellent choice. :D
