With the first of the 3-month free trials for Apple Music set to expire tomorrow, many users will have their credit cards charged automatically for the $9.99/month service going forward (or $14.99/month for the family plan). If you’ve decided that you don’t want to continue with Apple Music experience and want to avoid being charged for your first month, we’ve put together quick and easy instructions on how to cancel your subscription to keep it from auto-renewing (which is on by default when you sign-up). Otherwise, Apple will charge the credit card linked to the Apple ID that you used to sign-up for Apple Music.
Yesterday Apple posted official walkthrough videos for Apple music just as the first free trials are set to expire tomorrow, and today the company started notifying customers through email and iOS notifications with a reminder to renew their membership. It’s unclear if Apple is sending out the notification to all customers or perhaps just those who have already disabled their subscription from auto-renewing, but many users have yet to receive the notification. Of course, only users that signed-up on day one will have their free three-month trial expire tomorrow.
While Apple has yet to share any solid numbers on Apple Music usage, it did respond to third-party reports related to user retention and conversion from rival services by claiming that only 21% of people have opted out of the free trial. Apple came up with the number by calculating the number of users that had used the service at least once in the last 7 days. The company was responding to reports from research firm MusicWatch that claimed that just 11 percent of iOS users report actually using Apple Music (although 77 percent were aware it had launched), roughly the same as the number of users purchasing or managing their music through iTunes. It also said that 64 percent of users said they are likely to subscribe after the free trial, but in contrast a similar 61 percent had switched off the automatic renewal process.

In three months, it has introduced me to more new artists I like than Spotify has in literally years. More than I’ve discovered through recommendations from friends. More than I’ve found by Shazamming tracks in bars and coffee shops. That’s huge. And while the UK does get a raw deal on pricing, it’s still less than than the cost of one album per month. So yes, for me Apple Music is worth it, and I’ll be continuing my subscription once Apple starts billing me in a week’s time. My Spotify subscription got cancelled a week in, and I won’t be renewing it.

1. Click on your account (the silhouette icon) in the upper right of iTunes
2. Select “Account Info”
3. Navigate to Settings and click “Manage” next to subscriptions
4. Click the “Edit” button next to “Apple Music Membership” (only necessary if you have multiple subscriptions). If not you’ll go direct to next step:
5. Click “Off” next to Automatic Renewal (this is also where you can switch your plan type)

2. Tap “View Apple ID”
3. Scroll down and tap “Manage” under in the Subscriptions section

I’ve seen about 50 of these articles explaining how to cancel your Apple music subscription, many from the beginning and now three months later. Not quite sure why there aren’t 50 articles on how to cancel your Spotify or Rdio subscription.

Exactly. I’ve only counted 47 myself. Though I suppose this one makes it 48.
I don’t know, maybe it’s because Apple Music debuted 3 months ago. You see, Apple offered a 3 month free trial of their music service — Apple Music — to users, and since its been 3 months, many trials will end tomorrow. You know, since it’s been 3 months since Apple Music debuted.
On the other hand, Spotify and Rdio did not debut 3 months ago and offer a 3 month trial to its new users — unlike Apple Music which did, in fact, debut 3 months ago with a 3 month free trial.
So you see, not as many people will have their 3 month trials to Spotify and Rdio end tomorrow, since they are subscribed to Spotify or Rdio and not Apple Music.
I know you can’t see it but my head is spinning while trying to figure out what you wrote.

How did you manage to repeat the same sentence for ten times without boring?
Because there wouldn’t be enough click ratio on articles about Spotify or Radio subscription. The media is not served for users but for money. Hot always means money.
All I get on OSX is “iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable,” or iTunes cannot complete your request. Must be a lot of last minute cancellations today.
Glad I cancelled my subscription. When they will set a sensible price for the uk (same or similar to the other countries) I might considering sibscribing again
Apple has cut me off a day early it seems. As of sometime during the middle of the night my Apple Music is no longer active and there’s no “For You” tab in iTunes.
Curiously, “For You” still works in iOS.
And even with all the articles about how to NOT renew your Apple Music subscription there will the usual outraged nincompoops claiming the didn’t know they would get charged.
Had to cancel the renewal. The interface is atrocious, the service is spoty and throws errors frequently, and I’ve literally only downloaded 10 songs during the past 3 months.
Maybe I’ll start my 3-month trial soon.
It would be nice to know how to avoid being charged the $9.99 when you unknowingly sign up for apple music – maybe by clicking on something – and you suddenly find the charge on your card? Math tells me that scamming millions of people who do not know what to do this way is numbers for Apple. Bad customer service.
