OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 beta 5 now available on the Mac App Store

If you’re running the latest OS X El Capitan Update Beta on your Mac, head over to the Mac App Store to grab today’s Update Beta 5 release. OS X 10.11.2 is currently being developed alongside iOS 9.2 for iPhone and iPad as well as tvOS 9.1 for the new Apple TV. If you’re already running the OS X 10.11.2 beta, launch the Mac App Store and open the Updates tab to download and install the new release, then restart your Mac. The update is available for both developers and public beta testers.

OS X 10.11.2 betas have focused on improvements across a handful of apps and parts of the operating system, including graphics, Mail, Wi-Fi, Calendar, USB, Notes, Photos, Spotlight, and networking. The update to the Mac will also likely be required to take advantage of AT&T’s new NumberSync feature for iPhones, which has been tested in previous iOS 9.2 betas ahead of an early 2016 release. Apple first started testing OS X 10.11.2 with developers and public beta testers in late October.

OS X 10.11.2 follows the last point update to El Capitan, which included over 150 new emoji characters as well as fixes for Microsoft Office on the Mac. We’ll update with any notable changes spotted in the latest OS X beta.

What about significant issues like core audio compatibilities, Raw image support updates not updating? These are multi-thousand dollar pieces of hardware used by professional music/film content developers, and Emojis are the highlight of an entire operating system?

You’re the one making the emojis the entire highlight of the OS, Apple’s not pushing it hard, the media is.

It’s just a tiny feature compared to the rest of the improvements they’re making in the core.

I’m not aware of your issues with Core Audio and Raw Image support (no raw issues here), I assume you’ve filed these bugs with Apple?

How about adding more features to the iWork suite?

Its interesting that I haven’t seen one person commenting on the pastcost browser that is supposedly being rolled out with this and you must agree according to apple to use this for the update, and it overides all other browsers on my mac. And quite frankly it ain’t no chrome or firfox, believe me.

Anyone using the beta, can you tell me if it fixes this issue or adds an option to turn off:

In finder window, if you click on a folder moving forward, then click on the back button, it defaults to the top of the finder window instead of the original location you were browsing. This is a problem when you have hundreds of files and have to scroll back to your original location.

This default to top finder view is in El Capitan but not previous OS X versions. There are a lot of us annoyed by this like natural scroll but at least natural scroll added the option to turn off.

Hopefully this update will fix my USB problems. I can use USB 2.0 flash drives just fine, but any 3.0 devices I plug in just won’t be recognized. They don’t even show up in Disk Utility

Is anyone else having issues with their Notification Center or just notifications in general?

Microsoft Office is still not working on my Macbook Pro w/ Retina. Will this update help fix it? Please respond ASAP.

I’d love to have Mail’s Activity window go back to showing us individual accounts polling for mail, so you can stop one specific account of you want to, rather then lumping it all together.. it kinda makes the activity monitor useless.

Ever since the first beta, my MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011) has been painfully slow to load anything. Fully booting up takes an average of 10 minutes, Messages has been unable to open successfully without a constant (Not Responding) message, my internal fan is always on max speed and is also causing my battery to deplete even while being plugged in. I have a second SSD internal drive, running OS X 10.8.5 and none of these issues occur while using that system drive. I tried installing the latest 10.11.2 beta 5 but I keep getting an error that says “OS X El Capitan Update Public Beta 5 could not be verified. You can try updating again in the App Store after restarting.”

Out with the new, in with the old?

  10. Will waiting for OS X 10.12 to come out of beta, and be officially released, solve the gmail issues? I’m helping someone with an iMac, that is not that tech savvy, so I’m looking for the easiest path/solution. (The Mavericks update was a nightmare, and neither of us want to go through anything remotely like that, again?
