Verizon giving away 2GB to upgraders, T-Mobile discounts iPhones and Apple Watches to AT&T switchers

The carrier wars in the US are heating up as we head further into the winter, and that’s generally good news for consumers. Verizon is currently adding 2GB of data for new and current subscribers that upgrade to certain plans over the next few weeks. T-Mobile is targeting switchers by offering AT&T subscribers that jump carriers the chance to buy the 128GB iPhone 6s at the price of the 16GB model and save as much as $125 on financed accessories including Beats headphones and the Apple Watch. Read on for details…

For current or future Verizon subscribers, here’s what you’ll want to know. Starting now through January 6th, the carrier will add 2GB of monthly data for each phone upgraded or added that uses an XL or XXL data plan.

Those are Verizon’s 12GB/$80 and 18GB/$100 plans effectively making these plans 14GB and 20GB for the same monthly price. The offer applies for up to 10 lines and sticks around as long as the upgraded or new phone is on the XL or XXL plan. Data can also be shared with others on the same family plan including tablets.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile is doing the usual thing and targeting switchers. AT&T customers that move lines to T-Mobile can pick up the 128GB iPhone 6s at the price of the $200 cheaper 16GB model. The entry level storage is generally a bad experience, and the offer makes the high-end model a better deal than the mid-tier 64GB model. The offer starts tomorrow and runs through December 13th.

T-Mobile notes that its current $200 credit promo for Sprint switchers runs through December 6th, and a deal for Verizon customers moving to T-Mobile will come next week.

Finally, T-Mobile is also offering AT&T switchers discounts up to $125 off of financed accessories including Beats headphones, Apple Watches, Guitar Hero Live for iOS, and much more. The offer also extends to AT&T’s GoPhone and Cricket Wireless subscribers as well. Read all the fine print here.

Wow, 2GB? What? I might be able to stream one more TV show a month or an SD movie perhaps. Thats so generous of you, Verizon.

My spouse and I recently re-signed up for our AT&T unlimited plans. We were paying a little more, but for unlimited, why not.

Now AT&T is raising their rates outside of our initial agreement, which breaks our agreement AND which angers me, because now I will be paying more for something that I don’t even leverage.

But there is GREAT NEWS: Now we can sign up for the T-Mobile family plan, 6GB each (2 GB more than I ever used in a month), AND I get keep my two AT&T iPhone 6S’s, which are easily resell-able for $600+ each, and I get $400 in device discounts. In all, this will save me over $1000, not including the $600 I’ll save a year in service fees.

I’m really not sure why people stick it out with AT&T. I can see paying a little more for a capability you might use in the future, but now the weight is clearly against AT&T.

    How the mighty has fallen.

totally worth it. switch to T-Mobile. i moved 9 lines in August and haven’t a single regret.

Can you explain how you’re able to keep your AT&T iPhone6s’s? I upgraded my two lines on AT&T to iPhone6s’s on the pre-order day. I’m considering switching to T-Mobile.

      • You just need to pay off your devices (if you haven’t already) and then the phones can be unlocked. Once they are unlocked by ATT, you may initiate a port to t-mobile and swap in t-mobile sim cards.

so i purchased two iPhone 6S on launch day from VZ. worst experience every! after waiting for two hours in line (5 people in front of me) i was let in. after i got let in i stood for three more hours while VZ agent upgraded my plan and added the new devices. That couple with the fact VZ CEO thinks that wifi calling is pure tom foolery and still doesn’t support the standard while everyone else is embracing it makes these our last VZ devices. VZ has totally lost their way. they care more about finding creative ways to charge more with clever advertising then they do about service. it will take a lot to turn around VZ

Isn’t Verizon waiting for FCC approval for WiFi calling?

      • myke2241 - 8 years ago

VZ was supposed to start supporting at the start of 2015. Recently AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint were waiting for FCC approval. VZ CEO is on record saying he thinks wifi calling isn’t necessary because his network is so good! I would like to see him complete a call where we live!

VZW just called me today — my unlimited data plan is going up to 50 dollars a month…If I switch to 6GB I save 60 bucks a month on my overall bill and they will also throw in a new phone. I currently have a 5S — I think I’m just going to do this…it seems like I will have no choice, eventually. What should I get…the 6S or the 6S plus?

wait until T-Mobile announces Uncarrier Unwrapped for verizon customers. Maybe you’ll snag an even better deal in a week or so.

I currently have Verizon with 2 lines on the XL 12GB are they suppose to add the additional 2GB automatically or am I suppose to do something to get it added? We upgraded are lines on Nov 5th and got 2 6S+?

  6. Anyone know if the 128gb for 16gb price applies to the 6S Plus as well?

  7. Anyone know if the ATT->TMobile 128gb for 16gb price is for the 6S Plus as well?

I just got my 128gb 6s switching from AT&T. I tried to get a 6+ but they said the deal didn’t apply to the plus (for those who are wondering). I was with AT&T for over a decade, but honestly I am so glad I switched. wifi calling is awesome, and my bill is $40 less per mo. I might go back and snag an Apple Watch for 50%, T mobile told me that I had until the end of the weekend to decide. Oh, they also paid off my old phone ($350) to get me out of my old carrier, then they gave me 200 for trade in. pretty much a win-win.

Oh forgot to add, the $200 is a bill credit, you don’t get the difference in price from the 16gb to the 128gb immediately.
