First Alert unveils HomeKit-enabled safe, environment monitor, and thermostat coming this year

Joining the onslaught of HomeKit-enabled tech we’ve seen so far at the Consumer Electronics Show, First Alert has just taken the wraps off of some more tech that uses Apple’s connected home platform. Last year at CES, First Alert announced its OneLink Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector, and this year it’s building on that announcement with a new HomeKit-enabled safe, an environment monitor, and a thermostat.

First is the OneLink Eviornemnt Monitor. This device is able to monitor the temperature and humidity in a room, as well as the carbon monoxide level. On the outside of the monitor itself are LED lights that change colors to reflect the room’s environment. When paired with an iOS device, users can get notifications when temperature, humidity, or carbon monoxide levels reach a certain threshold.

The OneLink WiFi Thermostat connects to your home’s WiFi network and allows you to control the temperature of your home via Siri and First Alert’s iOS app. OneLink’s offering joins a crowded arena of WiFi-enabled thermostats, so it’ll be interesting to see how its offering compares to the competition.

Finally, The OneLink WiFi Safe is a small safe for home use that again connects to HomeKit via WiFi and Bluetooth. This means that you can use Siri and OneLink’s iPhone app to open the safe and keep track of its status. There’s also a built-in accelerometer that alerts you via your iPhone if the safe is moved or opened.

Pricing and availability for OneLink’s new HomeKit offerings is unclear at this point. The company says they will be available later in 2016. Full press release below:

First Alert Connects Safety and Simplicity at 2016 Consumer Electronics Show

LAS VEGAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Pairing First Alert’s legacy of safety and innovation with Apple’s revolutionary HomeKit technology, the new Onelink by First Alert® portfolio of products sets the stage for a new era of safe, secure and simple connected homes. Delivering convenience, control and peace of mind, this innovative collection of smart devices will be the focal point of the Onelink by First Alert booth (Sands Expo #71831) at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

CES attendees will experience first-hand the many features and benefits of the new Onelink products via an experiential presentation, designed to demonstrate how they work together to make it easy for consumers to monitor and control their homes’ comfort and security from anywhere, at any time.

“Onelink by First Alert brings safety and simplicity with security to the connected home space,” said Tom Russo, president of First Alert. “By demonstrating how these products work – and work together – we can give visitors a real sense of the limitless possibilities that are available to protect what matters most: our families and homes.”

Common Sense Products for Connected Homes

The Onelink by First Alert portfolio includes a range of home monitoring devices designed to seamlessly integrate with a growing number of HomeKit accessories to create a comprehensive smart home system that conveniently connects users to their homes via the Onelink Home App on their iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) or Apple Watch. Initial product offerings include:

  • Onelink by First Alert Wi-Fi Smoke + Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm – This intuitive, easy-to-install, two-in-one alarm protects against the threats of smoke and carbon monoxide, and notifies users on their iOS devices in the event of an emergency. The alarm is offered in both hardwired (with 10-year sealed battery back-up) and 10-year sealed battery versions to accommodate different consumer needs and building requirements.
  • Onelink by First Alert Wi-Fi Environment Monitor – A first-of-its-kind innovation, this smart device features advanced sensing technologies to monitor for both high and low levels of carbon monoxide (CO), both of which can be harmful. Additionally, it monitors temperature and humidity and notifies users on their iOS devices of any changes. A multi-colored LED ring on the device informs users at a glance regarding the status of a room’s environment, and changes color to indicate shifts in temperature or other conditions.
  • Onelink by First Alert Wi-Fi Safe – Convenient connectivity is the hallmark of this sleek and smart safe. It connects remotely via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE with iOS devices, and can be unlocked securely from the Onelink Home App. The battery-operated safe includes a built-in accelerometer that detects motion and alerts users via the app if anyone attempts to move or open it.
  • Onelink by First Alert Wi-Fi Thermostat – Ideal for homes and small business settings, this programmable regulator connects easily to Wi-Fi and enables users to control their heating and cooling directly from an iOS device via the Onelink Home App. Using the app or the thermostat’s full-color touchscreen interface, users can set the temperature, turn heating or air conditioning on or off, trigger pre-set home or away settings, and set a schedule by the day of the week and the time of day.

“Since inventing our first smoke alarm more than 50 years ago, First Alert has been at the forefront of advancement in home safety technology,” noted Russo. “This legacy, combined with the proven performance of our products through the years, has earned First Alert a reputation as the most trusted name in home safety*. The Onelink portfolio brings our expertise to the growing connected home space, and we look forward to continuing to win consumers’ trust in this dynamic arena.”

Powerful Personal Protection

In addition to showcasing connected products for the home, First Alert also will debut its new Onelink Safety App. This personal safety app, which works with Apple Watch and iPhone devices, provides users with quick, efficient and convenient connectivity, allowing them to notify emergency contacts if they are in need of support or help. With a simple tap of the alert screen, or by using Siri commands, the in-app capability allows users to quickly contact up to five emergency contacts on their mobile devices with push notifications if the app user is need of assistance. The app also sends live GPS tracking of the user’s location.

Through the Onelink Safety app, users can easily and quickly activate an emergency alert sound on their iPhone, press to call 911 emergency services directly with a phone call, or communicate quickly to their emergency contacts with in-app predefined messaging.

The Onelink by First Alert Wi-Fi Smoke + CO Alarm is currently available at Lowe’s, Amazon.com, Apple.com and in Apple stores across the country. Other HomeKit-enabled Onelink products and the Onelink Safety App will become available in 2016.
