Apple Pay adds support for 50+ new banks and credit unions in the US

Apple has been steadily adding more banks to its list of those officially supported for Apple Pay, and today it adds yet another 50+ for users of the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch-based payment service. The new additions include a mix of banks and credit unions across the US, but don’t bring any newly supported institutions to users internationally. Head below for the full list of new banks and credit unions.

Apple Pay is officially live in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom in addition to the US, but the rollout of banks in other regions has lagged behind the US rollout considerably. While Apple supports hundreds of banks and credit unions in the US and adds another 50+ today, it only supports 15 in the UK and only non-bank issued American Express cards in Canada and the UK.

And in addition to almost every month rolling out support for the service to new banks in the US, Apple last month launched support for BJ’s Wholesale Club store cards. BJ’s is the second store card to be supported for the service following Kohl’s card launching back in October. Apple originally announced the feature back in June with partners Kohl’s and JCPenney, but it has yet to launch with additional retailers (or JCPenney).

Apple Pay was down yesterday for nearly an hour. How embarrassing, being in the check out line and no way to pay. Reset watch and got that “service not available” notice and then “your credit card information is being updated”. OK. These things happen. I get it. But this was the third time this week. That being said, I am very happy with my Watch. It is an excellent tool for me in many ways.

Interesting. I use ApplePay a lot and have never had that happen. I wonder if its something specific to the bank you are using. You don’t need an internet connection for it to work. So it must be something on the backend around authenticating the card. You may need to remove and readd the card or something.

ApplePay was not down, Probably the terminal or your credit card was the problem. i use ApplePay without problem, has worked flawlessly, even in London buses and stores with US credit card.

Another 50 US banks again while they’d just have to support 10 banks to cover 90% of all accounts in Germany. I hate that so many exciting features in iOS have been limited to very few countries in the last years. Do we get those features? No, but we pay for their development with every single iPhone and iPad. :(

Correction. American Express cards only in Canada and Australia.

  4. I’m still waiting for support of Best Buy’s credit card for Apple Pay!

How many banks do you people have?!
How is this of benefit to the consumer?
If i am customer at a big european bank like HSBC, Deutsche Bank, UBS i have access to my money and service all over the world.
Meanwhile there are people that are with Summit Community Bank. 50 miles later no one has even heard of it and you gotta pay at an ATM to get your money.
    Stupid.

I can’t use Apple pay on my iP6. I have very dry skin and in the winter my fingers crack and peel. I can’t use the fingerprint sensor for anything.

its nice that apple supports all these banks and keep adding more. just wish more retailers would support nfc readers. the only retailers in a 100 mile radius of me hat support these payments are dollar general, mcdonald’s and best buy. so considering i dont shop at these places like everyday my phone is an apple pay virgin. what would be great is if the next iphone supported the mst tech that the galaxy s6 has which would allow me to use apple pay everywhere.
