Mac Pro case clone Kickstarter is perfect for your next DIY gold Hackintosh project

We’ve seen DIY solutions in building a Mac Pro-style Hackintosh out of actual trash cans, but others who aren’t as inclined to follow a DIY route may be excited to hear about the Dune Case. Dune Case is currently running a Kickstarter campaign of its Mac Pro-inspired PC case. The case would allow anyone to get a Mac Pro look at a fraction of the cost at only $189. Boasting a design that helps support airflow, strikingly similar to the Mac Pro, the Dune Case comes in either a black or gold color options.

Even though Boot Camp officially supports Windows 10 on current Mac Pros, a lot of users desire the customization of a PC. The Dune Case gives PC-fans the options they want in customization, while still retaining a sleek form factor. The case utilizes mini-ITX components, has room for two 2.5 HDD, and includes three USB 3.0 ports.

The case is a bit heavy at 5.73 lbs, but that is primarily attributed to its aluminum construction. With a 140mm fan at the top, the Dune Case should keep components cooler than traditionally horizontal-oriented systems. The case is designed in a vertical-orientation, just like the Mac Pro, ensuring hot air is pulled up and out of the case instead of circulating within itself.

Pricing for the case will start at $189 when officially launched, but there are still some slots available for backers who can score it at $169 on Kickstarter.

  1. Oh lord, that video is cringeworthy. Yes, we get it, you are copying an Apple case design. That doesn’t mean you also have to copy the style they make their promo videos, without having the actual skills to pull it off.

Have you visited the MacRumours post discussing this travesty? The damn “inventor” created an account, and deflects EVERY SINGLE QUESTION posed to him about how he blatantly rips off Apple’s design. The amount of Microsoft fanboys frothing at the mouth there is also astonishing…

Absolutely…When the large gentleman comes on and starts talking in that accent though, I burst out in laughter O_~
This is Apple’s design, plain and simple. I’m not someone who believes that stuff like this should be “hands off” when coming up with new products and designs, but I would rather see someone getting inspired by existing designs, and then using that inspiration to create something new that is different in at least some aspects.

i read completely that article and i found this is very unique and incredible case for windows users who want to have apple case.
but your comment is not funny !
can you make the new case from 0 to 9 and sell in to the kickstarter for less than 100 dollar ?
no buddy you cant . its not fapping :)
the idea is idea ! who care that who is the owner . as a reader im interested for this design and abilities and im decide to order one of them.
who care what you said :D

Dude, I’m hoping Apple sues for design patent infringement

While this is a rip-off…I want one. If Apple doesn’t stop it I will probably get one. I have been wanting a mini itx rig for a while.

pretty sure the promo vid is tongue-in-cheek humor lol.. lighten up

Looks like a joke. And a video is even more funny. They even used the same icons on connectivity describtion

The guy should have said. “All we did was make a bad copy of Apple’s MacPro case design”. “That’s all we’re capable of doing because we have to wait until Apple does something different so we can copy them.”

did you know more than 300 people paid money for buying this shit ? believe it or not . they did because they want cylindric shape case,
and you sure they didnt pay to see your mom striping ! :D

thanks for article . its nice i will make order today .
important question : is there any option to select the color during the order ???

I have placed my order and support this kickstarter initiative. This case takes an SFX power supply and will fit a graphics card up to 185mm in length. The galax 970 OC low profile showcased in kickstarter is a powerhouse card. I have been looking for a case like this for some time. iMagic (Chinese) case cannot fit a descent high performance graphics card. This case is the first that truly offers high performance computer component options with superior airflow.

I doubt that this is a real Product. Beside the copyright discussion I see a whole lot of Problems from the technical Point of View.

First of all where does the powersupply come from? I can’t imagine that a regular powersupply would fit in and even if it would, the whole airflow would be distracted and it would be very very hard to find one which has it’s port on the right Place to fit the connectorpane.

Talking about this Connectorpane. This is advertised as a general purpose mini itx case right? If you go to amazon, to get an overview about the boards available you would’ve noticed, that they all have very different Ports with a very different Placement, so if this is a real product they could basicly forget about this hole “perfectly disgned output”-bullshit cause there will be only a very, very few Mainboards that will fit in there.

And that takes me to the next Point of this engineering nightmare: They are absolutely right when they say, that the Airflow of this things is pretty great and the hudge top fan is pretty quiet. Thats what Apples Mac Pro design is all about, I guess. BUT talking about common CPU’s and GPU’s we will, in nearly every single case, find one with an attached fan. So we got this gigantic Fan, with this perfect Airflow, which would be enough to cool the complete PC and add a few crappy and loud Boxedcoolers and will endup with a case combining the worsed of both worlds.

And those are only the major Problems of this design. If the engineers are reading this I would love to have a short description how you solve these Problems. I hope that you got solutions, otherwise this thing looks broken far beyond repair.

Thats the Idea behind Apples Mac Pro design, I guess. BUT talking about common CPU’s and GPU’s we will, in nearly every single case, find one with an attached fan. The Mac Pro is a very very smart designed Computer with an incredible amount of custom solutions, for hard problems, which are nearly impossible to solve if you only build a case without the Hardware.

And those are only the major Problems of this design. If the engineers are reading this I would love to heare a short description how you solve these Problems. I hope that you got solutions, otherwise this thing looks broken far beyond repair.
