Apple partners with designer Alexander Wang for fashion channel on Apple Music

Apple has long talked about blurring the line between technology and fashion, especially with the launch of the Apple Watch, and today it partnered with fashion guru Alexander Wang to launch a fashion channel on Apple Music. As reported by Vogue, Wang has partnered with Apple to launch a series of three playlists: Chill, Hype, and Vibe.

Apple Music’s first fashion channel comes following the company’s decision to sponsor the 2016 Met Gala, which focused on merging the technology and fashion industries. The three playlists curated by Wang are available to all Apple Music subscribers and Wang says each of them serve a specific purpose.

Wang explained the meaning of each playlist to Vogue. For instance, Wang’s Chill playlist is designed to be listened to while decompressing or during a night in. Artists featured in it include Rhianna, Drake, and Juicy J.

The Hype playlist is meant for the exact opposite kind of days as the Chill playlist. Wang says that the Hype playlist includes songs that “kick up the energy” by artists like Diplo, Lil Jon, and M.I.A. Finally, the Vibe playlist is a mixture of both and includes A$AP Rocy, Rich Homie Quan, and Meek Mill.

Like all Editors playlists on Apple Music, Wang’s three offerings will be continually updated. The fashion guru calls the playlists his “memory bank” for songs that he likes:

“Year-round I’m always trying to find music and define who the character that season is, thinking about the show, the energy, and the venue, so I start collecting a playlist throughout, using it like a memory bank for songs I like.”

To go along with the new playlists, Wang and Apple have released a new video called “When Fashion Gets Turned Up.” The 30-second video shows Wang setting up for a party but ultimately falling asleep before it actually starts.

Back in September, Apple partnered with Burberry for its first brand-built channel. Of course, Apple retail head Angela Ahrendts left her position as CEO of Burberry to join Apple. The Burberry Apple Music channel focuses on the company’s Burberry Acoustic initiative.

Alexander Wang’s new Apple Music channel can be found here. Each playlist comes in at around an hour in length and features between 15 and 20 songs.
