Pre-orders for ‘iPhone 7’ now rumored for Sept. 9th, suggesting event during week of Sept. 5th

Over the weekend prominent leaker Evan Blass, @evleaks on Twitter, shared a couple of interesting dates for when the next iPhone will be released. Blass tweeted that the 2016 iPhone would be released during the week of September 12th, then later specified that Friday, September 16th would be the actual retail release.

Now Blass is digging further and adding that pre-orders for the next iPhone will “start on the 9th” which happens to be the Friday before the release date he shared previously.

Opening up iPhone pre-orders a week before the retail release lines up with previous years, although last year Apple did have a two-week period between orders and availability. Blass adds that you “can extrapolate the launch event date from there” because pre-orders usually take place on the Friday directly after the iPhone event which usually happens on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

This suggests we’ll see new iPhones introduced on September 6th or 7th, assuming the pre-order and release dates hold up with what Blass has tweeted. As we noted yesterday, September 16th would be slightly earlier than past iPhone releases, although it could pack a few more iPhone sells in the next quarter and help with the YOY comparison.

Apple has yet to announce its next big event and a date for it hasn’t been rumored elsewhere at this point, but several product lines are due for a refresh (like Macs and Apple Watches) potentially at the next event so there’s a lot to look forward to.
