How-To: Add Snapchat snaps to Instagram Stories [Video]

As brought out in our recent walkthrough video, Snapchat Stories and Instagram Stories share a lot of similar features. Yet, there are a few differences between the two social services when it comes to posting ephemeral story content.

Snapchat, for example, features the ability to use stickers and lenses, while Instagram Stories is a little more basic in its offerings. But did you know that it’s fairly easy to upload snaps created in Snapchat directly to Instagram? In the following video tutorial, we’ll show you how.

How to upload Snapchat snaps to Instagram Stories

Step 1: Create a new snap in Snapchat.

Step 2: Tap the download/save button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Note: as a shortcut, you can tap and hold the download/save button to save directly to your camera roll and skip steps 3-7.

Step 3: Exit out of the snap by tapping the ‘x’ in the upper left-hand corner.

Step 4: Tap the memories button at the bottom of the interface below the shutter.

Step 5: Under the Snaps tab, tap the snap that you saved in step 2.

Step 6: Swipe up on the screen to reveal the edit interface.

Step 7: Tap the hamburger button in the upper left-hand corner and tap Export Snap → Save Image/Video.

Step 8: Open Instagram.

Step 9: Open the Stories interface by swiping right while on the Home tab, or by tapping the New Story button in the upper left-hand corner of the Home tab.

Step 10: Swipe down to reveal the photos and videos saved in the last 24 hours.

Step 11: Select your exported snap.

Step 12: Add any additional text, drawings or filters to the clip, and tap the Save button at the bottom of the interface to add the Snapchat snap to your Instagram Story.

Indeed, the whole process is slightly convoluted, but it’s a good way to serve multiple audiences with the same content. It also makes it possible to grace your Instagram followers with Snapchat-centric features.
