Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt now fully supports HomeKit with iOS 10 Home app

Apple’s new Home app in iOS 10 promotes HomeKit to a built-in app with Control Center access, but a few accessories require firmware updates to fully work with the new home automation software. Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt was previously in this camp, and today Schlage is announcing that its Sense Smart Deadbolt is fully compatible with Apple’s new Home app.

The latest version of the Schlage Sense app is needed to update the Smart Deadbolt to fully work with Apple’s Home app, then you can lock and unlock the smart lock from Control Center on your iPhone or iPad or use your voice with Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. HomeKit also allows you to automate actions like locking and unlocking your door when you leave or arrive home, or locking your door automatically when you go to bed.

Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt also features a keypad on the hardware for keyless entry for time you don’t want to use Siri or automation. This is especially useful for guests and family as you can store up to 30 passcodes at a time. Schlage also allows you to view lock activity in its app so you can see when your kids get home and make sure your door is locked when you’re away.

We haven’t had the chance to check out Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt yet but we’re still awaiting a similar update from August Smart Lock (review) with iOS 10’s Home app so it’s good news to see progress in this space sooner than later. Hopefully we can go hands-on with Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt in the near future too. Version 2 of the Schlage Sense app also enables alerts for lock activity.

What’s New in Version 2.0

– Includes lock firmware update for Apple’s Home app in iOS 10
– Adds support for lock/unlock notifications

Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt goes for $229 on Amazon, Apple, and Schlage.com. You can download Schlage Sense’s latest app update for free on the App Store.

Also happening today in the smart home space, Canary has announced a its new Flex camera which is fitted for use inside or outdoors. There’s no mention of HomeKit support, however, but we’ll update if we learn otherwise.
