Warner Music Group latest to team up with Facebook to add music to memories and moments

Warner Music Group is the latest to team up with Facebook to add music to its memories and moments feature. The deal will allow users to add licensed music to their videos.

The deal paves the way for fans to create, upload and share videos with licensed music from their favorite artists and songwriters.

WMG says it wants to continue building its relationship with Facebook and expand its music catalog into Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Oculus. This could hint at going beyond video surfaces and possibly working on other projects within the Facebook company itself.

Ole Obermann, WMG’s Chief Digital Officer said:

Our partnership with Facebook will help expand the universe of music streaming and create supplementary revenue for artists. Fan-created video is one of the most personal, social and often viral ways that music is enjoyed, but its commercial potential is largely untapped. This collaboration will lead to new possibilities for our artists, while enhancing the user experience across Facebook, Instagram and Oculus, and enabling people to communicate and express themselves using the music they love.

However, WMG isn’t the only music label to join Facebook. The company has previously signed deals with Universal Music Group, Global Music Rights, and Sony. It seems like Facebook is wanting to have all the major music labels on board so that users can use a wide range of licensed content. However, it could also potentially signal that Facebook is wanting to get into the music streaming business.
