Ecamm says its popular Call Recorder for FaceTime won’t be compatible w/ macOS Mojave

Apple is set to release macOS 10.14 Mojave to the public soon, but for those who rely on the Call Recorder for FaceTime software from Ecamm, it might be wise to hold out on upgrading…

In an email to users this evening, Ecamm said that with macOS 10.14 Mojave, Apple has tightened the overall security of the operating system and FaceTime, rendering its Call Recorder for FaceTime software incompatible. Thus, the application will not be compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave at launch:

Ecamm explains that over the years, it has been able to adapt to changes within macOS and FaceTime, but that has changed this year:

We created Call Recorder for FaceTime in 2014 as an easy and simple way to automate FaceTime call recording. As FaceTime has evolved, we’ve been able to continuously adapt our app to provide a seamless experience — Until now:

In macOS 10.14 Mojave, expected to be released this fall, Apple has made many changes to FaceTime, and tightened the security of the operating system. As a result of these changes, Call Recorder for FaceTime will not be compatible with macOS 10.14.

As for the future, Ecamm says it will “continue to assess the feasibility” of brining its Call Recorder software to Mojave, but that it currently has “no plans for a compatible version or for creating a replacement.” The solution it recommends, instead, is for users to no upgrade to Mojave if they rely on Call Recorder for their workflow:

If your current workflow relies on Call Recorder for FaceTime, we recommend not upgrading to Mojave until you have established an alternate method of recording calls.

Ecamm will continue to assess the feasibility of adapting Call Recorder for FaceTime to work with Mojave, but we have no plans at this time for a compatible version or for creating a replacement.

For those unfamiliar, Ecamm’s Call Recorder for FaceTime has been a popular piece of software among many macOS users as it allowed for easy recording of FaceTime audio and video calls directly to your Mac. The app also supported recording Handoff calls.

Are you a Call Recorder for FaceTime user? If so, will its incompatibility with Mojave stop you from upgrading? Let us know down in the comments!
