How to get pre-approved for iPhone Xs as a new or existing iPhone Upgrade Program user

Each year the iPhone Upgrade Program seems to improve in one way or another. Today, Apple started allowing both existing and new members of the program to get pre-approved for an iPhone Xs or Xs Max so pre-orders this Friday go as smoothly as possible.

Apple is solely offering the pre-approval option through its Apple Store app.

Use the Apple Store app on your iPhone to get preapproved for the iPhone Upgrade Program — before 4:00 p.m. PDT on 9.13. Then speed through checkout on 9.14.

If you’re not familiar with the iPhone Upgrade Program, it offers free financing over 24 months, with the option to upgrade yearly with a trade-in. It also includes AppleCare+ coverage (and this year, customers can opt to pay a bit more for theft and loss protection).

The iPhone Xs starts at $49.91/month with the Xs Max going from $54.08/month. iPhone XR won’t be available for pre-order until October 19, but will also be available through the financing program.

For existing iPhone Upgrade Program members who are concerned about how things might shake out this year, no worries. As you go through the pre-approval process, you’ll just be asked to make an additional payment to get you to the equivalent of 12.

Once you open the Apple Store app, tap on View Pricing under iPhone Xs, then tap Learn More at the top as shown in the image below. Follow along with the next steps and you should be set to go for Friday’s pre-order in a few minutes.
