Master & Dynamic launch MW07, an alternative to AirPods aiming for higher audio quality

Master & Dynamic has announced its first true wireless in-ear headphones, the MW07. The company is aiming to bring high-quality audio to the ultra-portable in-ear category.

Custom 10mm beryllium drivers, a metal traditionally used only in hi-fi products, provide exceptional acoustics and deliver a rich, warm, expansive sound.

‘Our goal is to offer the best of both superior sound and sophisticated design to our customers,’ said Master & Dynamic’s founder and CEO Jonathan Levine …

The company says that 10mm drivers are the largest offered in the in-ear true wireless category.

The casing is handcrafted acetate in a choice of four colors, with stainless steel buttons. The lightweight outer material means each headphone weighs just 9 grams despite a stainless steel sound enclosure. They come with a polished stainless steel charging case with separate LED indicators for battery level of each earphone and the case itself.

As you’d expect, proximity sensors automatically pause play when you remove them from your ears, and resume when you reinsert them.

Master & Dynamic claims 3.5 hours of battery-life for the headphones, with the case offering three further charges, for a total of 14 hours. The headphones recharge in 1.5 hours, while the case charges to 50% in just 15 minutes and 100% in 40 minutes.

The MW07 are priced significantly above AirPods, at $299. I’ve had the chance to give them a brief test, and first impressions suggest that they do justify the price premium. I’ll follow up with a review once I have more experience with them.
