Do iPhone X cases fit the iPhone XS?

The iPhone X and iPhone XS carry a lot of similarities in terms of design, but as always, one of the biggest questions is whether or not cases for the iPhone X will fit this year’s model. So do iPhone X cases fit the iPhone XS?

Read on to find out…

The iPhone X and iPhone XS feature the same dimensions, both measuring in at 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm (5.65 x 2.79 x 0.30 in). This seemingly implies that all iPhone X cases will perfectly fit the iPhone XS. That, however, isn’t necessarily true.

Do iPhone X cases fit the iPhone XS?

The answer is sort of. As we noted, the camera bump on the iPhone XS is slightly bigger than it is on the iPhone X. This is likely due to the fact that the iPhone XS features a wide-angle sensor that is 32 percent larger than the one found on the iPhone X.

The iPhone XS camera bump measures in at 25.50 mm tall, which is ever-so-slightly taller than the 24.13 mm of the iPhone X’s camera bump.

Of note, Apple is not marketing its iPhone X cases as compatible with the iPhone XS – nor are the iPhone XS cases also listed as compatible with the iPhone X. The camera hole on the iPhone X case measures 25.39mm tall, whereas the cutout on the iPhone XS case is 25.6mm.

What does this mean for cases? In most instances, you’ll likely be perfectly using an iPhone X case with the iPhone XS, or vice versa. There might be a tad bit of an imperfect fit around the camera, but this will not affect the actually camera technology or photo quality at all.

Third-party case makers are generally far less precise than Apple, which is why some companies are marketing their iPhone X and iPhone XS cases as being identical.

Here are some of the best cases designed specifically for iPhone XS:
