In addition to the charging USB issues some iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max users are facing, users of the Belkin PowerHouse and Valet docks have found them not compatible with Apple’s newest smartphones. Belkin has acknowledged the issue, but hasn’t offered any details on why.
Belkin has updated its product pages for both the Valet and PowerHouse to reflect this issue. The company doesn’t offer an explanation for the change, and simply says, “Please note: This product is not compatible with the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.”
Users have taken to Apple support forums and Reddit to complain of the incompatibility. At this point, it’s unclear what exactly changed between the iPhone X and iPhone XS that would prevent the charging functionality to break.
Belkin’s PowerHouse and Valet are 2-in-1 charging docks for iPhone and Apple Watch. They both include built-in Lightning connectors, as well as Apple Watch chargers, and are MFi certified. Thus far, we haven’t heard any reports of other 2-in-1 charging docks not working with the iPhone XS and iPhone XR.
Last week, Belkin unveiled a new Boost Up wireless charging dock, as well as a revised PowerHouse. At the time, it was unclear that the previous-gen PowerHouse and the Valet were incompatible with the iPhone XS and iPhone XR. Both of the new docks, however, are fully compatible with the iPhone XS and iPhone XR.
Earlier today, we reported that some iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max units are not charging automatically when a power cable is plugged in. Instead, users find they have to ensure the screen is on and re-plug in their cables for charging to begin. This issue, however, appears to be more related to iOS 12 rather than the new iPhones.
