Apple today began informing legacy TestFlight users that the services on TestFlightApp.com will no longer be available after February 26th, 2015. Apple bought the popular software testing distribution service through its acquisition of Burstly almost a year ago, and announced plans at WWDC 2014 to roll out its own version of the service in the future. Since then, Apple has integrated TestFlight beta testing for app developers with iTunes Connect.

Apple has acquired Burstly, the company behind the popular beta testing platform Test Flight, TechCrunch reported (now confirmed by Recode). TestFlight recently pulled its SDK as well as Android support prompting speculation that big changes were on the horizon. Some speculated that an Apple acquisition could behind it all and would make sense considering the fragmented beta testing experience for app developers. While neither company has commented publicly confirming the acquisition, we were pointed to hints of the acquisition just before TechCrunch reported the rumor as likely and later updated its reporting to note that the acquisition had already occurred…

Apple starts doubling the number of devices developers can use to test iOS apps

Apple’s Developer Center is now allowing certain developers to add up to 200 iOS devices to their account, double the previous amount allowed. Devices registered in this list can beta test a developer’s applications as well as the unreleased versions of iOS (and related software like iTunes).

Developers have been wanting the limit to increase for quite some time, since removing a device does not increase the count again until membership is renewed:

You are allowed to register up to 100 iOS devices for testing and Ad Hoc distribution per membership year.Please Note: Although you may remove a device from your account, it will continue to count against your 100 device limit.

As seen above, Apple’s documentation still reflects the 100 device limit and there has not been a new post in the developer center news, so the new limit may be a fluke or something that is rolling out to specific developers only.
