In a new patent application, Apple details an idea it’s experimenting with that would have Apple Watch users shake hands to exchange data (via PatentlyApple). The idea is simple. Droplr launches new Mac and iOS apps, introduces support for limited free accounts

File sharing service Droplr announced today that it is launching new versions of both of its apps alongside a freemium account option. Users will now be able to sign up and use Droplr to share large files for free, but will only be able to store their files for one week. After that, the links will expire. Users subscribed the Droplr Pro service will be able to keep their files forever, and will get access to other settings to customize the file sharing process.

Along with the new account types comes a family of redesigned applications to support them. The iOS app, seen above, has been reworked with support for the latest iOS features, such as sharing extensions. When you upload a file through the iOS app, it will immediately be pushed to the Mac app, or vice versa.

File sharing software CloudApp has gotten a significant update with today’s launch of version 3.0 of its Mac client. The software already supported features like private and public sharing links, live view counters, and automatic screenshot uploads, but today it adds even more tricks to its bag.

The biggest addition to the application is support for something called CloudApp Motion. This handy feature will allow you to quickly capture all or part of your screen, then automatically upload the captured footage to the web as a sharable animated GIF. At the moment the GIF output is a bit choppy, so don’t expect buttery smooth playback, though the company has promised that high-fidelity GIFs are coming soon.

Dropbox released version 2.3.12 as an “experiemental” build today, adding a few interesting new features that will hopefully make it through the beta process into the shipping version of the app. The new features, as noted by MacStories, include the option to have screenshots automatically added to your dropbox with the link copied to your clipboard for easy sharing, much like the automatic sharing features found in CloudApp and Droplr.

New in 2.3.12

  • Screenshot to Dropbox
  • Move to Dropbox
  • Import from iPhoto
  • Much faster upload/download speeds for large files
