With the introduction of a new LTE iPad, there is no shortage of rumors about a 4G iPhone not being far behind. We saw LTE in iOS code strings before the new Pad was introduced, but it was only speculation whether those were for iPhone, the new 4G iPad, or both.

Today, code strings in iOS 5.1 discovered by Cydia developer Krishna Sagar contain the text: “Enabling 4G will end your phone call. Are you sure you want to enable 4G?” It also has various other mentions of enabling and disabling 4G when on phone calls and FaceTime. While most of the references to 4G in the strings could be for the iPad, references to calling features is pretty solid evidence that Apple is at the very least testing a LTE iPhone.

AT&T recently began calling its HSPA+ service 4G on iPhone 4S, but switching that on and off would not disable a phone call or a FaceTime chat.

There is also a full reference to FaceTime over 4G in the code strings (below):

New iPad jailbroken within hours

That did not take long. Just hours after today’s launch of the new iPad, jailbreaker MuscleNerd posted (via iFans) screenshots of what he claimed is a jailbroken third-generation iPad. Do not get too excited, because MuscleNerd warned there is “still lots of work to do.” Therefore, the jailbreak is far from prime time. There is “No ETA,” but he provided screenshots of Cydia running for further proof that it is on the way. We will keep you updated as progress is made.

Over on the Dev-Team Blog, a new post noted: “It’s impossible to predict how or when these things turn out,” but the team also highlighted the progress made so far with iOS 5.1, as well as the possibility of jailbreaking the new iPad.

Go past the break for the full breakdown.

Of course, just like the rest of us, the Dev Team was waiting-by during yesterday’s event to give us an update on the jailbreaking situation following any announcements. Very briefly during the event, Apple told us iOS 5.1 would begin rolling out. The major takeaway of the announcement was Siri support for Japanese users. Over on the Dev-Team Blog, the team outlined everything you need to know about jailbreaking and updating to iOS 5.1. They also confirmed redsn0w is capable of a tethered jailbreak for non-A5 devices. Here is what you need to know:

Leaked iOS 5.1 pre-GM build contains camera slider and Japanese Siri?

Site default logo image

Portuguese language blog BlogdoiPhone leaked reported screenshots of the iOS 5.1 ‘pre-GM’ (via MacRumors) that it claimed to receive from a local carrier. We already postulated iOS 5.1 is most likely going to launch with the iPad 3 on the rumored March 7 date. Today’s leaked screenshots reveal two more features in iOS 5.1, such as a new camera button on the home screen, and Japanese Siri.

On earlier versions of iOS, double clicking the home button revealed the camera button that you can click, but today’s leaked screenshots (above, left) show iOS 5.1 will now have a camera button that slides up to turn on the camera. This change eliminates accidental clicks.

Earlier this week, we discovered that Siri revealed the Japanese language is on its way to the voice-activated assistant. Today’s leaked screenshots also show that Japanese Siri support is included in iOS 5.1 (above, right).
