iPhone SE 2020 release date

Apple has announced that the iPhone SE 2020 model will be available for pre-order on Friday, April 17.

iPhone SE 2020 design and features

Black. White. Or red. In a small 4.7” design. With studio-quality portraits. Sharp 4K video. Long battery life. A13 Bionic — the fastest chip in a smartphone. And the security of Touch ID, with privacy built in. iPhone SE. Lots to love. And less to spend.

The iPhone SE 2020 is a 4.7-inch design with Apple’s A13 Bionic chip (same as iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro).

A13 Bionic was built with a focus on machine learning, with a dedicated 8-core Neural Engine capable of 5 trillion operations per second, two Machine Learning Accelerators on the CPU and a new Machine Learning Controller to balance performance and efficiency. Together, A13 Bionic and iOS 13 enable new intelligent apps that make use of machine learning and Core ML®.

The new iPhone also includes the ability to take 4K video (60 fps) along with a 12-megapixel f/1.8 aperture Wide camera. It uses the image signal processor and Neural Engine of A13 Bionic to allow for  even more benefits of computational photography, including Portrait Mode, Six Portrait Lighting effects, and Depth Control.

If you still prefer Touch ID over Face ID, you’ll love the iPhone SE 2020 as it retains the popular home button. The new iPhone is also water- and dust-resistant with an IP67 rating for water resistance up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

iPhone SE 2020 Communication Technology

If you’re looking for information about the Wi-Fi technology in the iPhone SE, you’ll be pleased to know that Apple has built-in Wi-Fi 6 technology along with Express Card support.

As we discovered from beta code, the iPhone SE does also feature support for “Express Cards with power reserve” to allow for authentication even when your iPhone runs out of juice. That will come in handy for Express Transit and also for Apple’s upcoming CarKey feature.

However, one piece of networking hardware the new iPhone SE doesn’t have is Apple’s Ultra Wideband chip that’s in the iPhone 11 series. That helps with more seamless AirDrop sharing for now and in the future is expected to work with Apple’s upcoming AirTags.

iPhone SE 2020 pricing

The price starts at $399 for the 64GB model. The 128GB model is $449. The 256 GB model is $549. With a trade-in, the new iPhone can be purchased for even less money out of pocket.

iPhone SE is successful at its intended job

The new iPhone SE 2020 is successful in its intended role, says Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), based on its latest buyer survey.

Apple likely planning 2020 iPhone SE assembly in Brazil

Apple announced the new iPhone SE last week, and the phone is now available to order in more than 40 countries, according to Apple. While Brazil is not in the first wave at launch, the 2020 iPhone SE may arrive in the country in the coming weeks, as ANATEL (Brazil’s FCC-equivalent) has just released the documentation of the product homologation process. More surprisingly, there’s evidence that Apple is planning to assemble the new iPhone in Brazil.

The new $399 iPhone SE is now available to order

As announced earlier this week, you can order the new iPhone SE today (Apple, Best Buy) with deliveries starting next week. Available in black, white, and red color options, the 2020 second-generation iPhone SE starts at $399 for a 64 GB model. The 128 GB option is available for $50 more, and the biggest-capacity 256 GB model costs $549.

The new iPhone SE features an iPhone 8 industrial design but features the latest A13 chip and an iPhone XR-quality rear camera. Looking like an iPhone 8 means that the SE features a 4.7-inch display, a physical Touch ID home button, and sizeable chin and forehead front bezels. But at $399, the phone represents very good value for money.

Comment: The beloved iPhone SE now lives on in name only; meet the iPhone 8S

The new iPhone SE is really an iPhone 8S

Apple yesterday announced what it calls the new iPhone SE. The latest budget iPhone is many things. It’s a great upgrade for owners of the iPhone 6. It’s a lot of phone for an affordable price. It’s an efficient way for Apple to offer a ‘new’ phone with minimal retooling. It’s a smart business move in an uncertain economy.

What it is not, however, is an iPhone SE …
