The race is on for rolling out 5G wireless service, not only for mobile devices, but also for home broadband use. While Verizon is starting a limited 5G home broadband rollout next month, T-Mobile has given more details on its 5G in-home broadband goals for the next few years.
T-Mobile CEO, John Legere mentioned some general goals for its 5G home broadband service like this one back in June:

When talking about the T-Mobile/Sprint merger, one point was how it would help rural customers:

Today, we’ve got more specifics on the Un-carrier’s 5G home broadband plans as noted by Fierce Wireless (via The Verge). T-Mobile’s COO, Mike Seivert said in new documents shared with the FCC related to the merger that it expects to cover 50% of zip codes in the US by 2024. That would mean giving 68% of Comcast customers and 64% of Charter customers another choice for internet service.
If the merger goes through, Sievert forecasts that “New T-Mobile would gain 1.9 million in-home wireless broadband customers by 2021 and 9.5 million customers by 2024, making it the nation’s fourth largest in-home ISP by 2024.” Notably, he thinks at least 25% of the nearly 2 million customers by 2021 will be in rural areas.
While Verizon is using technicians to get service up and running for its 5G home broadband, T-Mobile will apparently make it optional for customers to handle it themselves.
“Unlike other in-home broadband offerings, the wireless nature of the offering will also provide customers with the choice of avoiding installation appointments and related charges as they will be able to self-provision the necessary in-home equipment,” Sievert said.
The new T-Mobile’s 5G service is expected to begin at about 100 Mbps and could triple by 2024.
Sievert said the company would provide consumers across the country with average download speeds of 100 Mbps. By 2024, he said New T-Mobile will be able to cover more than 250 million people with data rates greater than 300 Mbps and more than 200 million people at greater than 500 Mbps.
No launch dates have been shared for the 5G home broadband from T-Mobile yet. However, the company has said that it will rollout out 5G for mobile devices in 30 cities this year, starting with New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Las Vegas.
