This week’s top stories: October event expectations from Apple, new emoji in iOS 12.1, more

In this week’s top stories: Everything Apple will announce in October, Apple Watch Series 4 Nike+ hits store shelves, iOS 12.1 includes 70+ new emoji, and more.  Read on for this week’s top Apple news.

Two weeks after the release of the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple Watch Nike+ hit store shelves this week. The device includes two main differences in comparison to the aluminum Apple Watch Series 4: exclusive Nike+ watch faces and a new reflective Sport Loop band. Read everything there is to know about Apple Watch Nike+ here.

Bloomberg Businessweek this week published an extensive report detailing how Chinese spy chips were found in servers of major U.S. tech companies, including Apple. Apple, however, has vehemently denied the report, issuing a handful of strong-worded statements and a press release ‘What Businessweek got wrong about Apple.’

Apple released the second beta of iOS 12.1 to developers and public beta testers this week. The update, perhaps most notably for the average consumer, includes 70 new emoji. The new emoji options include red hair, lobster, softball, bagel, and many more.

As for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, a pair of detailed tests emerged this week offering closer looks at key features. DxOMark is calling the iPhone XS camera “one of the best mobile cameras” following its extensive testing.

Meanwhile, Consumer Reports testing shows that one of the biggest improvements for the iPhone XS is battery life, with the device averaging battery life even better than what Apple claimed.

Last but not least, 9to5Mac’s Zac Hall shared his full Apple Watch Series 4 review, highlighting the beautiful new design, as well as the invisible features that make it such a substantial upgrade from the Series 3. Read the full review here.
