Poll: Custom font bug persists in iOS and iPadOS 17 Beta 4 – do you use custom fonts?

People always ask me if it’s ok to install the current beta on their main device. Every year I say the same thing, do it at your own risk because there is always a chance of data loss, performance issues, bugs and so much more. The iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 beta programs have been relatively stable but that does not mean it’s been perfect and it doesn’t mean you should run out and install it.

Adobe Slate

Adobe is out today with its latest app for content creators on the iPad. The new Adobe Slate app is available for free and joins the similar Voice app Adobe launched last May. Where Adobe Voice focused on using the iPad and later the iPhone for story telling with the spokenword backed by visual elements, the new Adobe Slate app pairs text with fluid and customizable attractive layouts that look great whether you’re a designer or not.

Adobe today released a new iPad app dubbed Comp CC that offers “rapid creation of layout concepts for mobile, Web and print projects” that can later be used in Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC and InDesign CC. Apple modernizes its investor relations site, with thin fonts and flat icons

Screen Shot 2014-06-04 at 16.41.47

Apple has updated its Investor Relations website with a modern design. The site features the clean lines and thin fonts now standard with Apple’s new design direction. The homepage of the portal currently features the Istanbul Apple Store, but otherwise the site seems the same in terms of content.

The visual redesign is a massive shift for the investor site, which felt largely abandoned until today. The site now shows off Apple’s stock price with a large chart, in the iOS 7 ‘flat’ style.

Amusingly, as with the rest of Apple’s website, the main navigation toolbar along the top of the page sticks out as old-fashioned, retaining its glossy appearance.

Celebrate 30 years of Mac with Apple’s hidden icon font

Mac Icon Font

As part of Apple’s 30th anniversary celebration of the Mac, Apple built a dedicated page to illustrate the evolution of the Mac year after year.

Each panel features line-drawn icon representing the Mac portraying that year, and a friend of mine, Greg Barbosa, noticed these icons are actually characters that make up a special font.

You can download the font to your Mac and explore each icon yourself, and I’ve created a gallery below to see each Mac drawing at high-res scale. Enjoy.

Update: T-shirts featuring the icons available on Teespring (black and white).
