Logic Pros Review: IK’s new extremely affordable analog UNO synth for Mac/iOS

Today it’s all about IK Multimedia’s latest analog synth hardware. IK’s lineup of music production and live sound gear is largely considered to be for those with a budget in mind or as amazing beginner rigs for aspiring producers. The new UNO synth is designed to be just that with an extremely competitive price tag and wide platform compatibility with your existing recording environment. After having the chance to put the portable analog synthesizer to the test over the last couple weeks in some electronic-based music productions and more, it’s time to see what the new IK Multimedia UNO Synth is packing.

Logic Pros: Using Selection-Based Processing for easy audio repairs & precision editing

Selection-Based processing might not be the most exciting feature you’ll find inside of Logic Pro X, but it is certainly one of the unsung heroes of Apple’s flagship audio software. While much of our discussions on Logic Pros are in some degree centered around making music for various applications, Selection-Based Processing is useful for just about anyone. Whether it’s for intersting creative FX flourishes at just the right spot in a verse or making basic editing tasks a breeze for your next YouTube upload, SBP has you covered.

Feature Request: Audio Quick Look previews for Logic Pro sessions in Finder

The Quick Look feature in macOS has always been a particularly useful, albeit somewhat unremarkable feature in Apple’s desktop environment. Select any file in the Finder, hit the Space bar and boom, you get a quick look at the contents of the file without having to open it in a compatible app. I use it relentlessly. If you’re anything like me, this is incredibly convenient for previewing images, listening to audio files and getting a quick peak at documents/PDFs. However, it all depends on the type of file you’re taking a Quick Look at. A Logic Pro X session file offers up an image of the main tracks area in that particular session just the way it was when you last saved the project along with some quick links to backups, but we think it’s time Apple takes it up a notch.

While this particular roundup will be focusing mainly on music producers and their sample libraries, many of our suggestions will work with other applications as well.

Logic Pros Review: Apogee’s next generation Lightning & USB MiC+ for iOS/Mac

Apogee has been one of the top names in digital audio in the music production world for years. It successfully jumped into the mobile game with its iOS friendly interfaces among other things a few years back, and recently launched the second generation MiC+ USB/Lightning Microphone. Apogee rarely opts for affordability over quality, but we had to give it a run for its money anyway.

We have now had a chance to go hands-on with the company’s latest portable mic over the last little while. Apogee has certainly stepped its game up here, but is it still worth the world-class price tag? Head below for our full review…

Review: IK’s latest iRig Keys I/O hybrid MIDI controller doubles as an audio interface

IK Multimedia has released loads of new generation products for portable and mobile musicians over the last 12 months. From the iRig HD 2 condenser mic and the sub-$100 iRig Pre guitar interface, to the new Syntronik for Mac/iOS, IK has something for everyone this holiday season. Back in August, the company debuted its latest MIDI controller product known as iRig Keys I/O. As expected with IK, this appeared to come along with everything you could want in a sub $300 controller, but this time around IK decided to take it one step further with a more all-in-one approach.

The controller keyboard-meets-audio interface brings a lot to the table for the price tag, but is it all a little too good to be true? We decided to put the company’s latest flagship driver to the test over the last couple weeks in a typical home studio environment across a number of different projects. Head below to find out more…

GarageBand 2.3 adds new Sound Library, Beat Sequencer, Instruments, iPhone X support & more

GarageBand

We are getting a major update to Apple’s free iOS music production suite today. GarageBand was already considered to be one of, if not the best, DAW’s available to mobile music makers, and now it’s getting even better. With today’s update, Apple is focusing almost solely on content and we couldn’t be happier. While there are enhancements and minor improvements across the board here, it’s all about new sounds, instruments, beat creation and making sure it all fits perfectly on the edge-to-edge iPhone X Super Retina display.

We’ve had some time to play with all the new features as well as some hands-on time with the new Moog Model 15 synth AU integration. Head below for more details on everything new to GarageBand 2.3 for iOS…
