Apple Pay launch partner USAA says support arriving Nov. 7

When Apple unveiled its new Apple Pay payment service during its iPhone event last month, it said the new feature would arrive for users in the US sometime in October. While there hasn’t been a firm date announced for the launch, at least one of Apple’s early bank partners has apparently confirmed a release date. DailyDot reports that USAA said Apple Pay would become available for its Visa and MasterCard customers on November 7:

Parekh says USAA will offer Apple Pay beginning on “Nov. 7 for USAA MasterCard and USAA Visa cards,” which is the first official date for an Apple Pay release thus far.

During its event Apple said it would initially support cards from American Express, MasterCard, and Visa through a number of issuing banks in the US including Citi, Bank of America, Capital One, Wells Fargo, Chase, American Express PNC, Navy Federal Credit Union, Barclays, USBank, and USAA. On its website, however, PNC, Navy Federal Credit Union, Barclays, USBank, and USAA are listed separately as “coming soon”. Apple also announced a number of app and retail partners supporting Apple Pay at launch:

It’s unclear if the November 7 date might be a launch date for Apple Pay and the rest of the issuing bank partners, which would mean a week delay for Apple’s previously planned October launch, or if certain banks will roll out support at different times. PNC and Navy Federal told DailyDot the service would arrive “later this fall”. It’s likely those listed in the “coming soon” category on Apple’s website– PNC, Navy Federal Credit Union, Barclays, USBank, and USAA– will launch later than the other banks including Citi, Bank of America, Capital One, Wells Fargo, Chase, and American Express.

With Apple’s previous announcement that Apple Pay would launch this month, there’s a good chance we’ll here more about an official launch date at its press event scheduled for October 16.

    Best bank i’ve ever had.

Odd they’d be missing their own announced date of October, even if only by a week.

USAA didn’t announce an October release. Apple did. Apple will release the Apple Pay update in October. That doesn’t mean every bank will support it on day one though. Banks have to add support for it individually. Launch partners like Citibank will support it on day one, but others (like USAA) will be later.

Apples website still lists October (http://www.apple.com/iphone-6/apple-pay/) I would imagine if they knew it was going to be delayed until Nov, the website language would have changed to reflect that.

This is not the date for Apple’s roll out. Apple is still rolling it out later this month.

You might want to actually explain (to the at least 50% of your readers that are not from the USA), what “USAA” actually is, before you write an entire article about it. Journalism 101 guys.

It’s a bank, why would they need to explain what it is?

      • Is it a credit card company, brokerage, bank, lending company, etc. You shouldn’t have a bank in a sentence with credit companies as they are different categories. Especially as far as this article is concerned.

USAA was listed by Apple as a “coming soon” Apple Pay partner. Ether way, it’s safe to say that if you don’t know what it is, you probably don’t have an account there, eh? ;)

USAA is a member-owned Fortune 500 company that serves members of the military and their families with all kinds of insurance, banking, investment and financial service products. USAA got its start when several army officers couldn’t get car insurance back in 1922. They opened their own insurance company, United Services Automobile Association. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the main building of the home office is four stories tall and more than a mile long — second in size only to the Pentagon. USAA also has regional offices through out the United States and Europe. USAA has more than 21,800 employees. USAA owns and manages more than $125.1 billion in assets. There are more than 6.4 million USAA members. 11.7 million Insurance policies. 2.8 million Investment accounts.

Marine Corps and Air Force Vet of 12 years here. Used to have a shitty CU back in the day, Marine Corps West, horrible, now called Pacific Marine I think. Back in ’02, when I checked in to a unit in Japan, my Sergeant Major asked me if I had Navy Fed, I said no, he said Wrong answer. Navy Fed was good though, but ever since switching over to USAA, I’ve never been happier with a financial institution. Insurance is great, car loans are great, and now I’ll be able to use Pay with my iPhone 6!! Fnck yeah!!!

  7. Apple is still likely going to be launching Apple Pay this month, but not all cards work with it right out of the gate… So what USAA is likely saying is that their cards will be ready to use by November 7th while Apple Pay itself will likely still launch this month. Even having them as a launch partner doesn’t necessarily mean compatibility will launch the same day Apple Pay goes live.

    Mon Nov 3 2014 –

USAA works on Apple Pay now. Nice, USAA told 9To5Mac to expect Fri Nov 7, told the public to expect “early November,” and launched it on the first working day in November.

    Props again USAA!
