World Trade Center among first to replace office keys with iPhone and Apple Watch

With the release of iOS 15 last year, Apple expanded the Apple Wallet application to support storing office keys for the first time – this feature allows Apple Watch and iPhone users to access buildings by tapping their device to unlock a door. Now, real estate development firm Silverstein Properties has announced that it is rolling out support for this feature to tenants at the World Trade Center.

Interbank teases Apple Pay launch in Peru as South American expansion continues [U]

Update: After 9to5Mac published that Interbank Peru was announcing Apple Pay support, the bank removed its videos about the service as well as the page promoting Apple’s own payment system. As of now, only Brazil and Colombia offer the ability to add debit and credit cards to the Apple Wallet in South America.

Apple Pay has had its first expansion in 2022 as Peru is now enabling Apple’s own payment system through Interbank. With that, this is the third South American country to support Apple Pay.

TSA to begin rolling out support for Apple Wallet IDs in February 2022

At WWDC in June, Apple unveiled its ambitious plans to allow users in participating states to store their IDs in the Wallet application. This feature was initially slated to launch sometime this year, but it ended up being delayed until 2022. Apple promotes Express Transit mode inside the Wallet app to London users

It’s been a couple of years since Apple launched the Express Transit feature for users to pay for public transportation just by taking the iPhone closer to an NFC terminal, without the need for an ID verification.

The function, which has been available for London users for quite some time, is now being promoted inside the Wallet app, even if the user already has the Express Transit feature set.

Apple Pay continues worldwide expansion, now available in three new countries

Apple reveals first US states working to adopt digital Apple Wallet IDs

After first announcing that iOS 15 would bring support for digital IDs via Apple Wallet back at WWDC in June, the first US states that will lead the adoption of the new standard have been named. There are 8 states announced for now that are committed to using Apple Wallet IDs and interestingly, they’re probably not the ones you’d guess. The first of the 8 to launch will be Arizona and Georgia and Apple also says it is already talking with “many more states” about adopting IDs in Apple Wallet.

NHS app adds COVID Pass feature with Apple Wallet support

The England COVID-19 passport is now more convenient for iOS users. According to a report by BBC, the NHS app has brought support to the Apple Wallet.

People in England can now store their COVID Pass in the NHS app, which, among other things, is used for COVID vaccination records. The government says this can be used at events and venues in England but not for international travel.

iOS 15: Apple implementing security verification with selfies to validate ID cards in the Wallet app

Apple announced at WWDC 2021 that iOS 15 will add support for ID cards in the Wallet app, but details are unknown as this feature is not available in the beta version of iOS 15. However, 9to5Mac has learned that the company is implementing a new security verification system with selfies to ensure that only the owner of an ID card can add it to the iPhone.

Apple Wallet now supports health insurance cards in Australia

Starting today, Australians can add digital health insurance cards to the Apple Wallet with the Health Industry Claims and Payments Service app.

Instead of swiping a plastic card, iPhone or Apple Watch users can now claim by tapping their device on the HICAPS Terminal. Currently eligible members of Bupa, Medibank, nib and GU health are able to tap and claim.

Apple launches new Apple Pay and Wallet webpages highlighting privacy, 85% acceptance, more

Apple has launched a new Apple Wallet webpage highlighting the growing number of features in the Wallet app on iPhone and Apple Watch. The company also completely redesigned the Apple Pay website, touting the benefits of Apple’s mobile payment platform.

iPhone and Apple Watch MagicBand option coming to Walt Disney World Resort

Walt Disney World Resort has long offered a MagicBand wristband as an electronic pass, and has now announced an iPhone or Apple Watch MagicBand option.

Instead of purchasing Disney’s own NFC band, you will be able to create a Disney MagicMobile pass that is added to your Apple Wallet. You can then simply hold your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the readers to gain park entry, and charge refreshments and merchandise to your hotel room…
