With the upcoming Apple event approaching quickly, speculation is getting out of hand in regards to the chip Apple plans to put in the next-generation MacBook Pro. The most likely name is “M1X,” and others believe the chip will be called “M2.” Some folks have tossed around other names as well with different modifiers. Guess what? It doesn’t matter what it’s called. What matters is that it’s faster than last year’s chip, but not so much faster that it steps on the M1’s parade.

An analyst has estimated that the upcoming launch of the 2021 MacBook Pro with M1X chip will result in almost a third of current owners upgrading to one of the new models.

Apple is expected to announce two new MacBook Pro models at its Unleashed event on Monday.

Apple today confirmed its upcoming special event on Monday, October 18, at which the company is expected to introduce its next-generation Apple Silicon chip with newly redesigned MacBook Pro models. However, contrary to what some people may think, the new M1X MacBook Pro is unlikely to replace the current entry-level models with the M1 chip.
