Apple on Monday announced a new generation of the MacBook Pro, as well as a new iMac – both powered by the M3 chip. These Macs are now available for pre-order, and shipping starts next week. And if you’ve bought one of the new Macs, a new build of macOS Sonoma is already waiting for you.

The new M3 MacBook Pro laptops come with a range of upgrades. But even with the third generation of the powerful Apple Silicon, a limitation remains on the base M3 MacBook Pro that could be a dealbreaker for some users.

Is M. Night Shyamalan running Apple? The company just announced a Monday night keynote event on the eve of Halloween. The tagline? Scary Fast. Macs are rumored, but what Apple silicon will be inside?

While there was once hope of the first M3 MacBooks being launched this month, more recent reporting has suggested we’re going to have to wait until next year for these. This is echoed by a new supply chain report, which says that Apple plans to make the switch to 3nm chips in 2024.

There is still some hope that we may see some M3 Macs before then, just not laptops …

MacBook Pro battery life is set to be boosted by more efficient backlighting on the upcoming models, according to a new supply chain report.

It suggests that Apple will be using brighter miniLEDs for the backlight, but won’t be increasing the maximum brightness level of the displays …

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has bad news for Apple fans hoping to see a lineup of M3-powered Macs this year. According to Kuo, Apple is no longer planning to release any new MacBook models equipped with M3 series chips “before the end of this year.”

More details about what to expect from the M3 lineup of chips continue to emerge. We’re expecting the first M3 Macs to hit the market in October, and now Bloomberg has more details on what to expect from the high-end M3 Ultra chip coming in 2024.

A Bloomberg report on Sunday revealed that Apple has been testing the base version of its new M3 chip with a new Mac mini. Now Bloomberg is back with another report about M3 Macs, but this time related to the more powerful M3 Max chip. According to Mark Gurman, the company has been experimenting with a chip with up to 40 GPU cores for a new high-end MacBook Pro.

Apple continues to ramp up testing of new M3 Macs as we approach an expected launch sometime in October. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple has recently started testing a new Mac with a model identifier “Mac15,12” with an M3 chip – potentially a new version of the Mac mini.

Following the announcement of the M2 chip at WWDC 2022, we’re now on the cusp of Apple announcing the new M3 chip. The M3 chip is expected to be a major upgrade over the M2, switching to a new fabrication and production process that will offer a major boost in both performance and efficiency.

TSMC 3nm chip production is well underway, with the latest process expected to be used for both the A17 chip in the iPhone 15 Pro, and the M3 destined for future Macs. However, the company told analysts that it isn’t yet able to keep up with customer demand.

Apple’s chipmaker also said that yield rates (the percentage of chips that pass quality control tests) are not yet good enough to charge the iPhone maker for every wafer produced …
