In October last year, Cisco announced its new Webex app for the iPad with Picture in Picture support, Center Stage, and more. Now, the company is bringing Picture in Picture support to another of its apps, Webex Meetings.

Cisco is introducing an all-new Webex app for iPad. According to the company, it delivers “the ultimate productivity experience with the familiarity of iPadOS.”
This version of Webex supports native features of iPadOS like Split View for multitasking, Center Stage, which automatically pans the camera to keep users in view, and Picture-in-Picture for video conferencing, so users can multitask while in meetings.

In December 2020, Cisco announced a wave of Webex new features to its videoconferencing service. This month, it is starting to roll out real-time translation as a test for more than 100 languages on Mac and other platforms.
This feature is coming this month, with general availability planned for May. At first, Cisco expected to start testing real-time translation in February, but things were delayed until now.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has made an unannounced appearance at this year’s Cisco Live US event happening now in Las Vegas. Cook’s appearance marks two years since Apple and Cisco unveiled a new partnership to create an iOS “fast lane” for enterprise customers.

Apple has announced a new partnership with Cisco that will result in a “fast lane” for enterprise customers using iOS devices on Cisco’s networks and push iPhone and iPad into Cisco’s enterprise environments. At a joint event today, Tim Cook reportedly said Apple is “all in on the enterprise” while calling the Cisco deal “the Holy Grail” of partnerships.
With Apple’s support, Cisco will deliver experiences specially optimized for iOS across mobile, cloud, and premises-based collaboration tools such as Cisco Spark, Cisco Telepresence and Cisco WebEx in order to deliver seamless team collaboration and reinvent the meeting experience.
The Cisco partnership adds to Apple’s increasing effort at targeting business with iPhones and iPads. Last year Apple established a connection with IBM that has resulted in several dedicated enterprise apps for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Apple is also said to be working with over 40 companies to make the iPad a better tool for business.
Like he has done before, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller has taken to his Twitter account to share a new report highlighting a much higher amount of security threats on Android compared to iOS. Schiller linked to Cisco’s 2014 annual security report covering mobile malware trends over the last year, which happens to highlight a rise in malware on Android as one of its key takeaways:
Ninety-nine percent of all mobile malware in 2013 targeted Android devices. Not all mobile malware is designed to target specific devices, however… Many encounters involve phishing, likejacking, or other social engineering ruses, or forcible redirects to websites other than expected. An analysis of user agents by Cisco TRAC/SIO reveals that Android users, at 71 percent, have the highest encounter rates with all forms of web-delivered malware
That 71% encounter rate for web-delivered malware on Android mentioned above compares to just 14 percent for iPhone users, according to the report. The report’s finding that 99 percent of all mobile malware last year targeted Android marks an increase for Android when comparing to the last report Schiller shared. In March of last year, Schiller shared a report from security firm F-Secure that estimated Android had around 79% of all mobile malware for 2012 compared to just 0.7 percent for iOS.

According to Bloomberg, Apple lost a lawsuit against VirnetX in a Texas courtroom late this evening and ordered to pay $368.2 million in damages. VirnetX sued Apple for infringing on its collection of network patents that Apple has been accused of incorporating into products like FaceTime. VirnetX was originally asking for upward of $900 million, but the jury decided on lesser damages this evening. Additionally, the patent holding company has similar cases pending against Cisco and Avaya. VirnetX successfully won $105.75 million from Microsoft in 2010.
