Apple unveiled iOS 11 in June of 2017 during its Worldwide Developer Conference, releasing the first developer beta the same day.

iOS 11 includes a host of new features and interface changes, including a new file system with the Files app, a new Dock for iPad, a redesigned Control Center, drag and drop, ARKit – an augmented reality platform, Apple Pay in Messages, a redesigned App Store, improved Siri, and much more.

Here’s how Apple describes its latest mobile OS:

iOS 11 sets a new standard for what is already the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. It makes iPhone better than before. It makes iPad more capable than ever. And now it opens up both to amazing possibilities for augmented reality in games and apps. With iOS 11, iPhone and iPad are the most powerful, personal, and intelligent devices they’ve ever been.

iOS 11 is currently in developer beta and public beta. The operating system will likely launch to the general public alongside the iPhone 8 this fall.

Latest update to Sketch design tool integrates official Apple iOS 11 UI templates

As part of the latest update to Sketch, a popular design tool for app development, the company announced that they have partnered with Apple to integrate the official iOS 11 design templates inside the app.

Sketch users can now simply download the Apple iOS UI Library in one click, and get automatic updates when new resources are added.

Receiving an Indian character crashes Messages and other apps in iOS 11 [U: Mac & Watch too]

Update: It’s now been confirmed that the issue affects both Macs and Apple Watches too.

There have been a number of cases where sending a particular message to an iOS device causes the Messages app to crash, leaving users unable to re-open it – and a new one has emerged in iOS 11.

Sending a specific Telugu (Indian language) character to a device running iOS 11.2.5 causes the app to crash, and then fail to re-open. In some cases, it can require a DFU reset to fix it …

Apple releases fifth iOS 11.2.5 beta for iPhone and iPad [U: tvOS too]

[Update: Public beta too.] [Update 2: tvOS 11.2.5 beta 5 is also out.]

Apple has released a new beta version of iOS for developer testing. iOS 11.2.5 beta 5 is now available on the developer center and over-the-air. The new version comes just two days after beta 4, although today’s release appears limited to iOS only. We’ll update to the latest versions and note any changes below.

iOS 11 leaves iOS devices more vulnerable to edge-case attacks, says phone-cracking company ElcomSoft

Changes to the way that Apple protects encrypted iOS backups leave devices more vulnerable to certain types of attack, says ElcomSoft, a Russian company used by law enforcement agencies and others to access iPhones. However, it only applies if the attacker has physical access to the device and can crack the passcode.

The changes were deliberately introduced as part of iOS 11

Apple releases fifth iOS 11.2, macOS 10.13.2, and tvOS 11.2 betas

Apple has released the fifth beta version of iOS 11.2 beta for developers. tvOS 11.2 beta and macOS 10.13.2 beta 5 are also available for testing. There doesn’t appear to be a new watchOS 4.2 beta today.

iOS 11.2 will include Apple Pay Cash support in addition to SiriKit for HomePod which was detailed at the end of October. AirPlay 2 was also previously available in beta versions but disappeared in the previous beta when the HomePod delay was announced.

Apple releases iOS 11.1 beta 5 to developers

Update 2: Apple has released the fifth public beta of iOS 11.1.

Update: Apple has also released the fourth beta of tvOS 11.1 to developers, as well as macOS High Sierra 10.13.1

Apple today has released iOS 11.1 beta 5 to developers. The update comes just a few days after Apple released beta 4. iOS 11.1 includes changes such as hundreds of new emoji, the return of the 3D multitasking gesture, and more.

iOS 11.1 beta is available via the Settings app.
