Just a few days after releasing the 10th beta of macOS Catalina, Apple has released the macOS Catalina Golden Master. That’s just ahead of the expected public release tomorrow, October 4th.

Apple today has released the tenth developer beta of macOS Catalina. The new version of Apple’s operating system features a new Music app that replaces iTunes, Podcasts and TV apps, updates to the Photos interface, a brand new Reminders app, extended desktop in Safari, updates to Markdown, Screen Time on macOS and the new ‘Find My’ app.

I made the decision a few weeks ago to install the beta of macOS Catalina. It’s still pretty buggy, but since I enjoy testing out new features (and writing about them), I am willing to deal with the crashes and incompatibility throughout the summer. One of the biggest surprises for me has been the changes in the Reminders app. Over the years, I used several to-do/GTD/project management/task apps. From Kindless GTD, Omnifocus, Things, and Todoist, I’ve used a lot of them. I’ve always looked at the Reminders app with interest, though. It’s hard to beat the advantages of a built in-app. With macOS Catalina and iOS 13, the Reminders app is finally ready to take its place alongside the rest of the task apps on the Apple ecosystem.

A common discussion this summer in the email lists and LinkedIn groups I am in is about the iOS and macOS betas. We’ve heard quite a bit about Project Catalyst and what it means for developers who want to bring their iPad applications to the Mac with macOS Catalina. Apple is using Catalyst itself to improve existing Mac apps like News and Home, as well as bring new apps like Podcasts to the Mac.

Now, evidence within the macOS Catalina beta suggests Apple has more in store for Project Catalyst.

At WWDC earlier this month, Apple offered more details on its plan to bring iPad apps to the Mac using Project Catalyst in macOS Catalina. WWDC 2018 marked Apple’s first attempt at porting its own iPad apps to macOS, bringing News, Home, Stocks, and Voice Memos to the Mac.

Those apps, however, are set to receive major improvements once macOS Catalina launches this fall.
